Frustrating for you.... sounds like she was ready to get out of the rain! She had all the fun she could handle. So glad you were able to get her.
So....what's a whinge??

Yeah she had her fun! She's been on a nest most summer so I think she glad to get out now! Whinging is like moaning. I'm a serial whinger! Whinging pom!

I'm just glad she's safe! I wouldn't be able to sleep with a loose bird....

Alright, its getting down to 35 tonight. the white homer squabs are in that embarrassing stage where they are bald, but to big for the parents to sit on them. what do yall think? Will they make it without intervention? They have each other to help stay warm. So, IDK. help! they are in a draft fee loft.

I've never had them in that cold before. I think it's about 1c so not quite freezing but cold enough. I remember @Hokum Coco fashioned a nest box out of a polystyrene box. Kind of like one of the incubator boxes. Cut a hole in the front for access. It shouldn't be too long before they have enough feathers to be able to stay warm themselves.

A few times I brought the whole nest bowl inside over nite then took it out as the day warmed so parents could feed. Or you could cover them with a piece of fleece.
I think they will make it.

okay. it is an odd, small, tight box that isn't ideal, and a Styrofoam box would be extremely difficult to get to fit. but the thought crossed my mind, and for the racer babies, I will do that if its to cold, since they have a bigger box. thanks so much for the reply, CCUK!

okay. I think I'm gonna bring them. ill bring them back out in the early morning. I could do the fleece, but I'm a little nervous about them suffocating. have you ever done fleece? Thanks so much for the reply bio!

I've just spent the last two hours trying to get Ash back into the loft. She took flight with the rest and decided to go on a tour. She returned just before dark and kept circling but wouldn't go in. I ended up putting a torch over the platform, opened the door and trap fully and put all the outside lights on. She landed on top of the loft but still wouldn't go in. Two of the other pigeons even came out, flew to her and returned. She was still sat on the roof. By now it was pitch black and had started to rain so I thought well if she dont want in she can have a night out. So I locked everything up, switched off the lights and went back inside for a coffee and a whinge! I went back outside about half hour later just to check if I could see her and she was sat on the fence soaking wet and looking really miserable. I walked up to her and put my hand out, she let me pick her up and I put her back in the loft next to her pair. All present and correct. Pigeons, who'd have 'em!

When I read that, ALL I could imagine was one of these. with

When I had a couple squabs hatch out during winter,,, I placed a Heat Lamp underneath loft area just under where they were. The warmth radiated up, and only plywood was the barrier. I made sure that the heat was not too hot to cause fire hazard concerns. I did what I could at that time. I did not have a heating pad available. If I was to do a repeat,,, I would go with a heating pad sandwiched between 2 fireproof items, like large dishes. Nest bowl on top of that. I later place a Reptile Heated Rock on a shelf. It would keep the small or adults warmer .
