Pigeon Talk

Pyxis....he looks fat & happy. Mom & dad must be doing a good job. I would love to see pics of them too.

They are spazzes and do NOT hold still for pictures, lol. Very not tame. That's why I was thinking of finishing off raising the baby, because I don't want it to be that way.

Heck I'd let mom & dad feed him. But I'd cuddle him & just talk to him a few times a day! That's if the parents aren't too stressed over you picking him up.

They're not fans of it, that's for sure, lol. That's why I've been trying to leave them alone at least until the baby is a little older so if they get stressed and stop taking care of it, it wouldn't be too hard for me to finish raising it.

My male homer that I have right now is extremely tame (he's actually a bit aggressive/hormonal as he got older) to the point that he's tried to mate with hands and hoods and stuff several times and all I did with him was handle him for like a half hour daily after about three weeks when he wasn't fully feathered especially under his wings but he was picking at food. That way if my handling him so much stressed the parents out I could just raise him the last week or so myself since he was becoming self-sufficient. He lived with a small flock of less tame pigeons and was let out to fly and stuff but always stayed very tame which I think helped him get rescued when he was lost. So maybe once your baby is that age you can just handle it often and that way you won't have to trouble yourself with fully raising him/her if the parents get spooked just weaning :)

Hey @Bdg1104 we would love to see some pictures of your flock!

How many pigeons do you have now? are they a certain breed, or ferals?

Hello!! I currently have 4 adults and 1 squab. Waffle and tiny are a pair. Waffle is the large pure white pigeon, and tiny is the smaller feral pigeon. I also have pancake and owl. Owl is some breed of owl (very creative name, I know) and I've been told pancake looks like she is a pied valencian figurata she has one tan wing and the rest of her is white! Waffle and tiny recently hatched their first squab a couple days ago. Pancake and owl seem to be infertile as they've had a good amount of clutches and none have developed at all. I would like to breed some short faced babies, so hopefully one day we'll get a fertile egg from them! I'm very happy with my little baby from tiny and waffle though, they are good parents so far!
