My family thinks it would be easier to convert this thing into a pigeon loft instead of just building one. At this point I think it may be easier for me to just take a wood working class and learn to do it myself. I see odvious flaws in the plan to turn this thing into a loft. I forgot to mention that turning it into a pigeon loft would also require us to move it! I only asked for a small pigeon loft! There's no need to make it large and difficult!

I made the suggestion that we could take it apart and use the wood but nobody liked that idea.

I see some potential there. Take the floor out between the levels, use that wood to enclose the sides (will need more wood but every bit helps).

Yeah that could work! For some reason I didn't think of that. I don't know why not. It'll need to be taken apart so that it can be moved anyway so hopefully it'll be easy to take the floor out without ruining it or anything. What my family meant is that we just add walls and a door to the top part though (I bet you can see why I was thinking it couldn't possibly work.) We have extra wood to so closing the sides wouldn't actually be super hard. I'll talk to my family about it and see if they like the idea!

More work than making a fresh loft to your needs. Maybe your family is trying to discourage you from having pigeons???

Haha! Luckily I'm not easily discouraged lol!

Personally, I think disassemble, and use the wood to make what you need is better than trying to convert what is there.
If it did not need to be moved, then it would be totally different approach.

Yeah. Thats what I would like to do but my family already said that would be too difficult. Apparently more difficult than carrying all the pieces to a different spot, trying to remember how they're supposed to be put back together, and then attempting to modify the top half to house pigeons.

That playground set is well anchored into the ground. I know that the upright posts can be simply cut down with a saw at ground level. My question pops up. "how will the whole thing get moved.?" Its not exactly light. I always see things as doing them myself. I don't have much humanpower that I could engage.

It's going to be taken apart and the pieces will be carried to the new spot. It doesn't actually have posts in the ground (it's sitting on cinder blocks) so no posts need to be cut. Luckily it just needs to be moved across the yard and the driveway (probably too much work just to move it that far.) I'll get a pic of where it'll be moved to soon.

I must say, I have to agree with them there. And a lot cheaper to.

Adding on and modifying something old may not be as exciting as building a new one, but it is cheaper and easier and faster.

perhaps, but anything takes lots of time and practice to learn. I say go with your family's idea! I have disagreed with many ideas my dad has had, but they often end up better than I had hoped for. I didn't even like the idea of this:

I have since gotten rid of this loft and replaced it with this:

Oh yes there is! I only wanted a max of ten birds, but here I am, at fifty three pigeons.

After all, it all started with 4 pigeons...
