Pigeon Talk

Well the egg that pipped yesterday am still hasn’t hatched but has made some progress. The second egg that I wasn’t sure about also pipped today, so hoping they both are able to hatch out themselves.

edited to add photo of first squab

Rojo is behaving very aggressively to the new cock. He chases him nearly all the time. If he tries to fly down to the feeder to eat, Rojo comes down to chase him away until he flies back up and lands on the door to the loft.

Thoughts on what to do about this? I will add a second feeder but if he's just gonna keep chasing him away from both that won't really help.

I have a similar situation with my three stooges and I found having a separate feeder helps. Two of them eat inside the loft and then my extra male has his own cup outside in the aviary. I also have two separate waterers for them. I have literally a dozen perching options for them but the cocks still fight because they only want a certain perch when the other bird is on it. They might work it out on their own. Is the other cock defending himself or just running away? My two are father and son and pretty evenly matched, usually a few wing slaps get thrown and then they break it up.

One of my favorite pigeon behaviors is the way they lay down and prop themselves up on one wing, it always looks a bit ridiculous.

Squabble is now displaying behaviours more like a male. 😮 Thought he was female due to behavours prior when interacting with the other birds (gently preening, trying to hold beaks, squatting and so on) but has started doing behavours more in line with males towards me, and has a jealous streak as one will see at around the 2:12 mark, when I try to give a sunflower seed to Snowbell and Squabble gets offended. Is Squabble just jealous, or is Squabble male?
