Pigeon Talk

Been having a mess with all of the hens on nests. I was always told the poop won’t always be right but damn do I have a lot of watery and green droppings, hoping it is due to the babies and a new food but I’m never sure. And on the food note, I hated paying $37 a bag for browns but I switched to an agway brand and damn I hate it. Never had so many hulls and empty seeds/corn cob pieces in anything else I had bought. Would rather pay the extra for a feed I feel is better or mix up a batch of my own again.

Got all 8 that hatched banded yesterday. Almost had one that was too big, they grow like weeds! At what age do people usually start loft flying? Once all the yellow feathers are gone roughly?
Trap train them first. I have started loft flying at 6 weeks or so before they get too strong on the wing. At first they won't fly much but just look around. This is good so they get dialed in to home before they fly too far. Are they joining experienced flyers or will they be on their own?

They will be alone. Starting fresh as I just moved so hoping to get a new group loft flying. Will definitely trap train them first!
When I started fresh with 3 squeakers they hung around on the high points of the roof, scanning the surroundings and just fluttering a bit for a week or so before they really took off. You can never really be sure what will happen. Watch out for hawks/predators til they get wise to danger. Best of luck!

Anybody use lime on their loft floors?
Are you trying to control insects??

I know it is uncommon what I did. I used hay in my loft, but when I would do a thorough clean-out,,,,,,,,,,,,, I sprinkled a thin layer of DE, first. Followed by a 1/4 inch, or slightly more layer of Sweet PDZ, Then a layer of hay. I changed out the hay, more often, while leaving the DE and PDZ still in place.

Not insects, just have been having some issues with watery poop and was wondering if it would help keep the moisture down. I just read that it is high in alkaline or how ever you would say it, and i actually have some DE so I may just do a light sprinkle of that Instead of the lime
