Pigeon Talk

That's what I think the issue is.
I tried to put it on the shelf, but the shelf is about head high for me and I can't see in then. Which isn't a huge deal, but I don't think it would be much fun if I couldn't at least watch without standing on a bucket. It didn't really fit up there either, it would have to be on a bit of an angle.

I can possibly add a board under it. I'll try that tomorrow maybe. It would have to be toenailed into the stud though I think. I'll see what I can do to fix it for them.

I've noticed that, haha. They're so wary with new things.
The top row of the latest box I added is above my head too. I use my phone camera to look in! I can hold it high enough to angle in a nest, but still see the screen.

Another option is putting the bowl directly on the shelf. Might have to run a screw thru the bottom to hold it on there. I worry about little ones getting out of the nest too soon and not being able to get back. But I check the ground nightly when I lock up my ducks, so if one doesn’t make it in, I’ll pick it up.

I'm always looking for practical solutions to semi complex problems.

Haha!
Well, I guess they were just taking their sweet time. They've been obsessing over building the perfect nest for the past several days, lol! Both of them are doing it. I was handing my female pieces of hay and she'd take them and fly them up there! It's adorable.

Haha! Awesome!
Have you seen them mating much?
I would suspect she will lay in it fairly soon, but others are more knowledgeable than me on that subject.

Does putting a fake egg in there work to entice them to lay?
No need.

How long do you think it'll take them to lay an egg after this stage?
Usually within a 10 day span. Eggs are often 2 days apart. and most often 2 eggs per turn.
Good information. I generally expected eggs somewhere around 10 days after the cock starts driving the hen.
