Pigeon Update #2 Rambling about my pigeons

This year I have introduced more birds into my loft then when I started keeping pigeons as a hobby. So far I have brought in 7 pigeons, 2 of which have died (one was sick the other got taken by a hawk). I may get some more pigeons as I have found some nice fantails for sale around and I would like to get back into breeding fantails. I also have found a different colour variety of Serbian High flyers!?

Anyways I already have 4 birds in quarantine and it hasn’t even been their first week. They are homing pigeons. I will be keeping them in quarantine for 4 weeks then move them into the loft for another 4 weeks then I will begin to let them out.

If I do get some more pigeons since the ones I’m looking at aren’t a type of homing breed they shouldn’t need as long in the loft as the others. My goal for this year is to breed about 100 birds (I shouldn’t have bought so many rings). What I plan to do is throughout the year to sell the young birds, I will also try to get rid of one of my lines, that I have been unsuccessful of selling.

I will need to keep up with worming, pest control, parasites and cleaning the loft in order to keep everyone healthy. I will also try to add more perches for them as I don’t want them to get too overcrowded. This year or last year I managed to sell all my fantails I bred (I should have kept some), while my mixed birds I didn’t even manage to sell.

Anyways this is all my rambling for now. I don’t even know why this is an update...

Love this duo, pretty color! Are they Serbian High Flyers?

I hope you continue to update this thread - I like to hear about other people experiences with pigeons!
