Ah, I see. Well, Silkies are notoriously difficult to sex, but your little one looks like a partridge Silkie, so you should be able to tell how accurate you were by the time she's feathered out!

Partridge Silkies are so gorgeous, too!

It seems like most Silkies are pretty docile like that, although my girl, Marge, is a sassy little thing!

I love your assortment, too! I had an Australorp named Aspen in my first set of chicks and she was a bit shy, but so soft and fluffy. She laid like a trouper, every day with few breaks! I thought about getting another one this year, but I decided to go with a second Dorking because of the one not hatching last year.

How do I tell her sex when she's feathered out? I can't keep her if she's a boy.
She's starting to get a lot of feathers.

Here's a thread for partridge Silkies: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/526271/partridge-silkies-nothing-else You can see in the first post there are pictures of a rooster and pullets. Mainly, the boys will be more blackish with patches of red and brown, while the girls will be more brownish overall. Hope that helps, and especially hope your baby is a girl! :fl

I can't believe how precious these babies are! And Elda would sit in my lap all day if I let her. Eek, she's soooo cute, even if she does try to peck my teeth when I smile at her! I mean, come on. This face. :love

While I'm here, I'd like to officially introduce my other addition to the family, the Swedish Flower Hen I mentioned in my first post.

So, meet Matilde!

Tilly joined the family because she was having a hard time getting along with her other flock, and this was escalated by a hawk attack that left a nasty wound on the back of her neck. She's healing fine, thanks to all the work her previous owner did to keep the wound clean and treated when she found her! Tilly will be in quarantine until the babies are about a month old, after which I'm going to try to introduce them to her so that she has a group to hang out with. Here's hoping she has better luck in my flock! :fl

Tilly's very sweet and docile and lets me mess with her face and scritch her cheeks. :love

Although, sometimes she gives me some pretty dirty looks when I'm done messing with her! :lol:

Phew, well it's been a long and exhausting day, but here are the few pictures of the babies that I took today.

Wouldn't you know it, Louise was the first to discover scratching. Elda's taking notes from the sidelines. :lol:

Okay, brace yourselves for the cuteness.

Today, I had the babies out on the floor and they had a heck of a time!

Georgie discovered 'dust bathing'--well, in the carpet at least! Strange little birdy. I actually got a video of the action this time!

Anyway, so the babies were loose on the floor and they were scratching and pecking and dusting, and every time they'd get tuckered out, they would come over and hop on my lap for a rest. :love

Well, late this evening, about time to get the big girls in, I had to put the babies in the brooder and was checking my phone for a couple things before I headed out. The babies freaked! They were peeping and jumping at the wall of the brooder, just completely panicked! It was getting dark, so I tried to put them under the EcoGlow, but they would have none of it! Finally, because they kept flying out when the fence was away from the brooder, I put my hands out to block them from flying--and they all tucked in beneath my hands and settled right down!

I have never had a set of chicks do this, but... Ooooh, it was so sweet! I think they may have imprinted on me or something! They were poking their heads out through my fingers and snuggling up against my hands and everything, just like they'd do with a mama hen! Ack, they are so precious! :love

Anyway, it didn't take long for Mabel to figure out the dusting thing. Not long after her, everyone had it figured out except Kit-kit.

Speaking of Kit-kit, her wings are kind of growing in weird! I think it's just because she doesn't have all her feathers in yet, but they stick out to the sides as a result:
