One of the downsides to using a broody for hatching instead of an incubator,
you don't get to watch.

Brinsea is good from what I've heard. I have a brinsea mini advance 2. ( holds 7 large eggs, 12 serama eggs )I would get one that can read the humidity because a few of mine piped on the wrong side and I think I needed a different humidity but i'm not sure. I was hatching serama, a small more difficult breed so could just be the breed? The one that read humidity is more expensive and newer. I'm not very experienced so this was just my experience.I’m interested in (in the future) hatching eggs, what’s a good make and brand of incubators ?

Apologies for posting in the wrong places. I will learn this one day I promise lol.Lots of people ask me about the things I know a lot about so I've decided ot make a thread where you can ask me questions about any of these things:
Please ask away! You can also post links to threads (your threads or someone else's) about any of those topics so I can find them and help out!
- Broody hens
- Hatching
- Helping to hatch
- Raising chicks
- Saving weak chicks
- Sexing silkies
If you know about these stuff too, feel free to answer some as well. @Silkie Princess you know about broodies, and @LadiesAndJane you know about silkie sexing.
Hopefully we can end up with a large gathering of information so newbies can stop by and learn!
I took out a good bit of water .I will keep a eye on the humidity. As far as temp no change staying right at 80 degrees. Its a 40 watt incandescent bulb.Should I go for a stronger wattage? Or could it be the fact my husband has a timer to cut off at 99 degrees .it cuts off as it should but the temp never ever changes.Maybe it's his settings on the temp situation or my bulb .I really don't know...Apologies for posting in the wrong places. I will learn this one day I promise lol.I even taped a few of his vent holes to see if that was the problem on temp and it never changed either. It said 1/2 cup water .so what measurement do you suggest ? Could it even be that we chose a plastic tote not a Styrofoam cooler?
Don't worry!Apologies for posting in the wrong places. I will learn this one day I promise lol.![]()
I'm not sure about how to up the temp, maybe try adding some kind of insulating material to the walls and see if it helps.I even taped a few of his vent holes to see if that was the problem on temp and it never changed either.
I never used measurements for mine, just take out half and check the humidity (if it's still too high after a few hours take out more). I just add a bit when the humidity goes below 45%It said 1/2 cup water .so what measurement do you suggest ?
Maybe that's why the temp is low. Try adding some insulator to the inside walls?Could it even be that we chose a plastic tote not a Styrofoam cooler?
