Way way off topic, but my college roommate was from Holt's Summit. Not the biggest place in the world

This pit bull is a mess and present owners may not be only factor. I have seen good natured pit bulls and they do repressent the majority. SSS in this case may not involve the third S since dog has such a reputation. He might be salvagable as a companion animal but his size makes risk high if he back slides.

We have an 80 lb pit bull/rottweiler. He's trained to stay around our house, and isn't allowed to run with other dogs. My husband has told the neighbors if our dog comes and runs their livestock, they're welcome to shoot him. And if they don't he'll shoot the dog himself. (Not that there's much chance of that - our dog has a good reputation in the neighborhood!)

I can't conceive of anyone keeping an animal that deliberately bites children. And then to watch it rampaging after everybody else's animals! The owner ought to be charged with everything possible - negligence, leash law violations, trespass, whatever. If he can't train a dog, he shouldn't have one, especially one big enough to do harm.

It is sad that the dog has to go that way. Sad because it is the owners fault.

But, you do what you have to. I was in a very similar situation, but my 'shoot' was a golf club and the dog was a huge collie. And with the chickens were my 3yo, my tiny dog...

My neighbors have a very large Rottie that is out of control. So far, it hasn't even come close to my chickens, but it has gone after my daughter when she has pulled into MY driveway-twice-and it has gone after me 3 times. One day it wouldn't let me out of my own gate. It has started fights through MY backyard fence with my dogs at least 6 times that I can remember. I called and reported the dog, and the neighbor was issued a dog at large citation, and was told that when the dog is outside it is either to be tied up, or on a leash. Neighbor lady came into my work a week later and said I shouldn't have a problem with her dog anymore, that she has it on a shock collar and every time she see's it heading for my house she gives it a jolt-but if she happens to let the dog out and she goes upstairs or something and the dog comes over and causes a problem, I need to let her know "instead of going the other route and reporting her to the cops". 2 days after that conversation I was getting ready to head out of town for my friends cancer surgery. I had to run out to my car for a pair a gloves, and the darn dog came after me again. I didn't have time to report it due to the fact that we had to leave in 5 minutes and I couldn't wait for the Villiage officer to come and take a report. I am at my wits end with these people! Not only are they irresponsible dog owners (they have 4 dogs total, only the Rottie being mean), but I have never seen a more disrespectful bunch of people in my entire life!

I have raised and owned Rotties and German Shepherds. My sister has raised Pits. My son has a Pit that I fostered for about 9 months when he moved and couldn't take her with him. I have fostered Dobies. I myself have 4 dogs, which is why my back yard is fenced. If you are going to have ANY dog, you need to be a responsible owner. IMHO, this particular dog should have been put down after biting a child-even though it's the owner's the fault for not controlling his animal, the dog can never be trusted again.

I raised and showed Rotties for 20 years and it's not just the owner it's the breeder. No breeder should allow people like that to own one of their puppies. In all those years I never had but one person try to go against my contract and not title their dog with at least a CD. When he found out I was serious about that title and taking the dog back he worked his butt off to get it done. Thankfully it showed him that earning that title was fun and he ended up going for more.

You don't produce and then not protect your lines. So yeah, bad breeder.

Yup..if that dog bit a kid it needs to be put down. ASAP.
Dont know if i agree with shooting it though... too bad you cant catch it and have it put down by a vet.

I also have my sights zero'd in on a pitbull that lives down the road. He's a very good dog though, unlike the op's problem. He simply has a problem that his owners allow him to roam at large.
Thus far I haven't caught him doing anything more than sniffing around, but if a bird dies...I know which yard to look in first.

I would definately report the incident to animal control authorities so that it is on record. Then, SSS is absolutely in order. You'll be doing the community a service.
