Pit Bull Puppy (GETTING BETTER)

Quote:
Actually American Pitt Bull Terrier is an actual a breed recognized by the UKC, not recognized by the AKC, but is a breed itself. The American Staffordshire Terrier is recognized by the AKC as is the Staffordshire Bull Terrier. All of which in slang are referred to as "Pit Bulls" because all of the breeds have been used for fighting.

I would always keep an eye on him because even my two beagles (who never chased the chicks, also were never left unattended) killed and ATE a hen that flew into their huge pen. These aren't even hunting dogs, they are show dogs.......

I used to watch the Westminster Kennel Club dog shows that were on USA a few years ago, and they recognize the APBT as a breed as well.

They are only supposed to be around 45-55 pounds full grown, according to WKC, but people have been breeding them to be bigger.

Here's a link to the NKC's APBT breed standard...if you are interested.

http://www.nationalkennelclub.com/Breed-Standards/apbt-astb standard.htm
However, looking at http://www.bulldogbreeds.com/americanpitbullterrier.html It does say that APBT and American Staffordshire are the same. (according to AKC)

But do socialize him. My dad has a pit, and he is aggressive towards dogs that are aggressive to him. Dad had (emphasis on had) a male beagle that would growl at Tank every time he came near, they were both on chains, so I guess dad thought it was no problem. Or he didn't care, who knows? Anyway, Tank somehow broke his chain on night and killed poor Jack the beagle. And dad still has Tank.

Hmmm, so are you all waiting for the test results?? Please tell me she at least tested! Maybe she says it's not treatable because it's such a pain in the butt to do....and can be very expensive. I don't know. I understand about shooting the dog, most people would consider that cruel but I'd rather my dog got a quick shot in the head rather than dying a horrible death. And with distemper there wouldn't be enough time to take him to be put down. I stand with you, I don't think it's distemper either!!! LOL!! Please be okay, little puppy! What was the official word on how old he is???

I saw your post after I posted again. I am on it and will try and treat him if I can catch it quick enough. One thing is for sure though, he is not going to die a miserable death, I'll shoot him first and he'll have his place in the family pet cemetary (back 5 acres). I know it sounds mean but no animal of mine is going to suffer more than needs be.

One of our rescues here came to us with canine distemper. He was an absolute mess at the time and is doing perfectly today. So I don't believe the untreatable part, but would have to agree that if it goes to the point of brain lesions, serious tremors or seizures a quick end would be my choice also.

At our "VETS recommendation" we tried what is discussed in this article. http://ezinearticles.com/?A-Study-o...-Places-For-Natural-Remedy-For-Dogs&id=793983

Fair warning if it is Distemper it will be a fight to get him but give him anything he wants to eat and when he stops eating don't worry they all do that just get yorself a super good blend a good dog food a good canned dog food nurtiacal [sp] and a big syringe I have a good recipe that worked p.m me if you need it don't be shy.

He is 14.8 pounds (yesterday). She guesstimates that he is 10 weeks old. She feels like he is full blooded (whatever that really means) but she put on his paper work that he is a Pit Bull mix. I started his medication last night. I think its just (hoping anyway) kennel cough

Ifin it turns out to be distemper I will keep your recipe in mind. Thank You for the offer and lets hope I dont have to ask you for it. I am anything but shy

Well, yesterday, I never heard him cough, he is running all over the yard now. He seems more active than ever. Seems as though he is getting better. None of my parents dogs have cought the coughing.

When I found him at my sisters we had been buring timber (hurricane ike) all weekend. The whole area was burning (still is) their fallen trees that weekend. I wonder ifin that could have caused his cough?

My "Terrier" is cough and wheezing right now too. He is 5. Our vet thinks it is allergies......

I am sure your baby will be fine.

How old do yall reckon he is? His name is Brutus by the way. He already understands not to jump up on me, I only told him once. He understands to stay out of the garage now, I only told him twice.

What a beauty! 10 weeks maybe? The face looks Pit,but the body looks a bit like a lab,so he may be a mix,but simply beautiful!
