*please help* chicks scared of water and won’t eat chick feed

A jar lid would make a good water dish for them. They'll eventually walk in it and figure out what to do.

They must be closer to 3-4 weeks, which means they feathered out fast. Good protein in the cat food! :thumbsup

It feels good to know I’m not doing everything completely wrong. I’ve been extremely worried about their health status since they’re still very young ,growing and developing :)

Thanks for the suggestions on how to improve what I’ve been doing. I used the top of my old guinea pig cage to cover protect and enclose the chicks while I let them roam a bit in different parts of my yard. I read about chickens needing grit so I tried to put them in areas with dirt and gravel. As for keeping the chicks, I’m really not sure. I really really want them to have a chance at life but I don’t know if they’re old enough to release and hope they can survive on their own alone. I don’t really have the right supplies to keep them forvever right now, so I might keep them until they’re big enough and strong enough to survive? I just don’t want to be harming them or restricting their chances of having a better life on their own in the wild since I have little to no experience or knowledge about caring and raising chickens. :(
That sounds perfect, letting them explore on the ground. I don't think you have to worry too much about making a lot of changes. What you have been doing so far is working great. Something shallow they holds water they can't tip, and just leave it in there, even if they seem scared.

I agree. your doing a great job. its important they have water available to them all the time though.

The mama hen doesn't buy special food for her chicks and she does just fine. Chick starter is more convenient, but you you did great. You can add in other things, like a little corn meal. The oats you can feed raw, but might need to chop them up. A variety of food is good so they get all the vitamins and nutrients. Even a little cooked egg. :) You just might have to try several times to get them to eat something new.

AS far as them being turned loose and taking care of the selves. That would be a few months down the road if at all since they look to you as mama now. I think you may just continue learning and expect some fresh eggs in a few months.

I just reread your first post.
If you have chick feed that they won't eat, try adding some water, they might just be used to wet food. Don't give too much at once... you don't want the food to get moldy.
If they are not afraid of your hand, use your finger like a beak and peck at things to show them it's good to eat. That's what the mama does with her beak. She also makes an excited bawk bawk sound. We can find video so you can hear it. If you can make that sound, they'll know you are trying to show them something good.
