Hi everyone, I have a 7.5 week old Easter egger and she was completely fine running around drinking/eating when I left her, I come home a couple hours later and she won’t open one eye and it seems to be a little swollen. I’m not seeing any discharge from the nasal area or around the eye and I don’t hear any difficulty breathing but she just wants to sleep. I got her to eat some egg yolk and a little food and water but she just keeps trying to sleep, please help.

Can you look into the swollen eye often and see if there are any bubbles or foam? I would get some Tylosin from a vet or here below online, which will take up to a week, and start treatment for possible mycoplasma (MG.) Dosage is 1 tsp per gallon of water for 5 days.

I would keep trying the get her drinking and eating. Please post a picture of the eyelid and face.

Eye trauma is a good possibility, stick, peck, whatever. Can you gently open the lid and see what shape the eye is in? Otherwise just keep her away from would be peckers and she’ll baby it along. If it starts oozing pus you may want antibiotics. Eyes tend to heal wonderfully or completely go to pot rather quickly depending on severity of damage. Normal, scarring, a blind quiet eye, or a nasty inflamed painful eye are all possible outcomes, the latter will need to be removed, the others are very livable.

I opened her eye and it looks normal to me, if it was just an eye injury would she be acting super sleepy and not wanting to much food or water?

I do have some tylosin on hand, I tried to figure out everything I might need in case of emergencies and stock up. Here’s a photo of her face and eye. She has a little egg yolk around her mouth. I’m not seeing any bubbles when I open her eye

Could it be Coccidiosis? She doesn’t have bloody poop but it was watery and she’s just wanting to sleep.
