Please help me make a point to TSC.

Ok so this was not at My local TSC today but about 20 miles west of My town. Went in to pick up a chick feeder and waterer and I saw "buy 1 get 1 free " so of course I looked in. There were 4 white rocks and all of them had bloody rear ends from pecking. I asked an associate did they have any blukote and he said' We put some pine tar on it and once they get the pine tar in their mouths they wont peck again." I was outraged!

That does NOT work...They were bleeding not WERE bleeding. I then asked for the store manager and told him to fix them and then looked over in the assorted red bin, which was overstocked and about 30 of them were on there way to bleeding as well. I told the manager about the blukote and he immediately went to the shelf, grabbed blukote, and started spraying. I also told him that I was going to report this to district office. This is outrageous. If this would of been My local store, I would of boycotted TSC forever. Good it was not but TSC none the less needs to make sure there employees are some what educated on chicks, ducks, and rabbits before selling them. Im not organization but jeez!

I was in our local TSC and there were two dead ducks and two dead chicks that had been there for awhile. One group of chicks waterer was bone dry don't know how long it had been that way. They should at least be a little more responsible. My three year old daughter noticed the dead ones.

It's bad for business though, and while I know EXACTLY what you mean...because I have been in other TSC's as well, maybe we should concentrate on individual stores. I believe the horror stories of some local TSC's. I just don't see punishing the lot of them for the acts of some. Ours(thankfully) is GREAT, hands down the best place to get chicks locally...well hatchery chicks at least. Maybe those that have horrible TSC's should report the specific stores to TSC corporate. Looking dirty and not taking care of animals is bad for business too. Corporate won't be happy with particularly bad stores because the TSC name is national and makes them ALL look bad. Maybe flood the site with complaints and have the store number responsible for the poor quality chicks, handy at the time. If a broad brush is applied, they may not take it seriously enough. Just an idea.....I'd like to see changes in some that have been mentioned myself. Good luck getting something done!!

Ok I digress.. I can only name the one in my local area. TSC is the only place in my entire county, which is the largest East of the Mississippi, that utilizes this style of chick days. All of the local Agways, etc use pre-order and only rarely end up with leftover chicks which they can generally place rapidly. They are not doing a good job. They have multiple chicks they have not sold. I am not "singling out" TSC. I use the local TSC's often. I bought supplies the other day only to have a clerk say "I'll give you a he!! of a discount if you take these chicks they're too old and getting too big". Unfortunately I am limited in a community setting with 1/4 acre or I would have bought them all right then and there.

DON'T DIGRESS...just regroup and encourage other folks that have had the same experience to report their dissatisfaction. It'll work...IF people will stick together and report the bad ones! It's a great idea! Just not for everybody because I think a lot of us have good stores to go to.

What i would worry about is trying to get them to adhere to stricter chick care guidelines....
thats where i'd focus my point...
I respect where you are coming from...

I think that it probably is smarter to limit chick selling to pre-orders.. i was discussing with the TSC man, TIM, who seemed pretty chicken-smart, whether most chicks were bought because they were 'cute' or because people actually knew what they were doing... he said his job was to sell the chicks, so he pushed towards the people who didn't know better... he wanted them sold, but did feel sad at night, thinking about the plight of those chicks and ducklings.... anyway, I if it weren't for impulse buys, I swear, I wouldn't have ANY animals at all!!! I buy first, and figure out how it's going to work afterwards... seat of my pants. although I did plan those turkeys...
