Please help me make a point to TSC.

DON'T DIGRESS...just regroup and encourage other folks that have had the same experience to report their dissatisfaction. It'll work...IF people will stick together and report the bad ones! It's a great idea! Just not for everybody because I think a lot of us have good stores to go to.

My local store is excellent but still it is disturbing to go an see any animals bleeding let alone chicks who dont know any better then to pick at the red thing....I agree tho, I will not go after the stores that are treating there animals right but this, today, was not right at all...All the manager said was ok and went to the shelf...Why did it take Me to say something for him to do that...People were going in and leaving when I did...~breathes~ I am still going to compose My email and send it to corporate.

Ive never had it work Myself and if you would of saw the chicks, steadly bleeding and pecking, you would of seen it does not work in this case either... Also there is no know healing agents in Pine Tar that I know of...not saying there isnt...Best bet is to clean the chicks and spray blukote since it promotes healing and stops pecking

You might suggest requiring them to have a thoroughly trained individual over the Chick Days set up in the future. Training is everything, and I suspect in the current job market, folks can't afford to lose even a part-time TSC job...and TRAINING IS EVERYTHING!!!! Maybe suggest a video and a test for individuals wanting to be the ones handling "Chick Days" that must meet a certain score and get a small BONUS for their extra work with the animals.

We contacted 4 feed stores in a 40 mile area to see what was available. All had chicks available. We were able to 'reserve' 5 BO and 5 SLW...the BO arrived yesterday (DH failed to ask if they were arriving same date) so DH rushed 40 miles to pick them up. SLW are suppose to arrive on 17th...if they don't it will cause a problem...DH goes back to work the next day--works out of town for 4 days in our only vehicle. Hoping they arrive the 17th

Our RSL came from local TSC which is brand new, just opened last month. DH said it was clean and they appeared to be cared for. He just happened to be there the morning they arrived in the mail. I had just told him Ideal Poultry was sold out til May and I was not sure we should order since May would be hot already and even with us in the same state there might be a loss of chicks (have traded lots of plants priority mail).

I would say it is not fair to single out TSC.

Great suggestion! I will add that in My email.

If your TSC isn't doing a good job of carring for the chicks or ducks or rabbits then maybe you should alert the local humane society.
They are required to provide fresh water and food at all times for them and if that isn't being done then.
A-talk to the Manager
B-if Manager doesn't make things right then call humane officer.
C-last resort (don't patronize them anylonger and tell them why)

Good Luck

I agree with everyone else!! Our TSC does a great job with their chicks and I love the fact that if I decided to buy more I can run up there and get some more!! They have plenty of places that start selling chicks in the spring and will keep getting them for a couple of months!!

My TSC does not have a limit, nor the Smith Farm store in my area-so it must vary from store to store.

I like being able to go in an buy some chicks on a whim--and so do the kids. Although I don't agree with some of the caretaking, I also won't complain about it. If I see a chick or a turkey that may be on it's way out, I simply ask them if I can have it to try and save it, and they do. I even take little chicks into the restroom to clean pasty butt while my hubby shops. That helps me to feel better about it.

However, I won't make any complaints to my farm stores or TSC here. I believe you should go to the particular store you are angry with and go from there.

I wasnt impressed by my local TSC manner of keeping their chicks and ducklings. Not that it was horrible, but it could have and should have been better! The heat lamps were split over two bins so the chicks were huddled for warmth, and the ducklings were very over crowded. Two of the waterers were almost empty and full of shavings. They did seem active and all looked well at that time, tho.

Does anyone remember the old Woolworth's Stores? Had to be about 35-40 years ago, now. Well, Woolworths used to sell the most wonderful things... including baby bunnies, ducklings and chicks at Easter time. They were in plastic display cases just at a childs eye level. I remember standing there SO JEALOUS as other children coaxed their parents into buying them the cute little Easter babies... so I know what you mean Kristen. Im sure that type of thing still happens... I'm sure thats were the min. purchase requirement comes in. And Hopefully TSC trains there employee's to kind of question the buyers and up-sell supplies to help ensure the well being of the chicks. I also know that spring time at animal shelters does see an influx of unwanted Easter animals!
