Please help me make a point to TSC.

I had trouble today also but it was not at my closest TSC, they had 3 very small bantams left, but i guess due to state law they cannot sell less then a dozen birds. These lil bantams were so weak they could not support themselves, let alone get to any water or food, i have them home now and am doing my best to help them survive but i had to buy a dozen birds to do it, and it is very possible that the littlest one may not survive.

I see pros and cons to what tsc or any other farm store does. As far as the impulse thing goes my neighbor asked me yesterday if I wanted to buy his 6 pullets that he bought "on impulse" while he was at tsc 3 weeks ago. I told him I would take them for a reasonable price because he said he was "just going to set them free or drop them off somewhere".

He is not the brightest light bulb in the pack but at least now I will go get them if he decides not to keep them.

The nearest TSC, only has the GC and commercial breeds of chicks and ducks. No Seramas or any other breeds. Haven't noticed any dead though I don't go in there all the time. Chicks in 6 minimum and @1.99 ea.
Does no one have a local SPCA to call?

I buy my chicks from our local, family owned and operated feed and pet store. It if weren't for "impulse" buying, I wouldn't have any chickens at all. I also wouldn't have my two beautiful Silkies and my Frizzle that I got from them this year.

We have two TSC's close to us (30 miles either way) and both seem to do a pretty good job of keeping the birds fed and watered, along with keeping the areas clean. They are birds and they do make messes, so unless they are cleaning up after them all day long, it may be messy when you come in.

I'm sorry, but I agree with a previous poster, I can not join in signing. If you have a problem, call your local SPCA, talk to the manager of that store, and call or e-mail corporate about THAT store. Don't lump all of them in together, especially if you have never been to other stores.

I have to agree and disagree at the same time. There are many good comments as well here. I wouldn't lump them together either. I have only been to 1 TSC ever and mine is in excellent shape. If it weren't for mine I would never have bought the 4 amberlinks I have. I have yet to see any that were filthy, sick, or dying. They do an excellent job here so it may be that the manager of your local store needs to do something about it. If he/she wont then corporate needs to know about it because that's unacceptable. Things are going to happen and it a chick is sickly then it should be separated and put in the backroom to heal.

We bought 3 sickly chicks 2 weeks ago. They're growing fast and they're funny little things. The largest of the 3 had 2 raw and bleeding spots that one of the others kept picking at so I put some cornstarch on the spot to aid in clotting and it covered the red spot. It's now healing and she's doing great. No more picking.

I would for sure go after the manager to do something about it and not the employees. The employee taking care of the chicks needs to be allowed the time in his/her shift to care for the chicks.

I agree with most of what has been posted .. but I dio not thin they should stop selling chicks just have MUCH more training for staff that will be caring for the chicks... I have seen some awesome TSC's and some terrible.. I have alos had MAJOR issues with Rural King

In regards to the TSC minimum, that is generally to keep people from buying 1 or 2 that they are not prepared for just because "they're cute". If they know you at your local TSC and know you keep chickens, they will let you buy less.

Second, if it wasn't for TSC I would have a call duckling crying all day again today because his sister was killed by a hawk 2 days ago. I couldn't stand hearing him cry and went and got him 2 khaki campbells. He and his new friends are very happy right now, and they follow him around like he's mommy.

Third, while I don't agree with discounting chicks or trying to 'bargain sell' them.....I do know that certain people check back every few days just to catch them on sale. Think about it, if you're buying a dozen meaties...half price is a good difference.

Also, I have been to several TSC's in the area during chick days and while all had adequate care, 2 stores were excellent.

To really be effective every single person who goes to the TSC's with bad care needs to report it to corporate. Also, if your TSC has excellent care, that should be reported too! They should know that we appreciate their care and concern for these animals.
