Earlier today, she was very unwell. Her beak went cold for awhile and she kept stumbling around. We were shocked and worried for her, so we gave her meloxadin oral suspension anti-inflammatory medication. She seemed to feel a little better after that, but shortly later, she was unable to eat and now she’s throwing up food she ate. I heard taking too much of meloxadin can cause this. They says it could cause stomach bleeding, but we only took once more than she should. Is that very serious?

She seems very unwell. She can’t eat and has just been drinking for the past ten hours. We just got her blood test results back and the vet says it’s a lack of vitamin A and D, but we don’t know if it’s safe to feed her a new supplement now and how long it’ll take to help her. We’re really worried about her, but we know we shouldn’t bring her to the doctor’s now. If we do, she’ll feel even more unwell being in the car and all that.

We’re trying to support her in every way we can. Does anyone have any advice or know any painkillers that could be taken with antibiotics?
Any help would be seriously appreciated.

Sounds like possibly an impacted crop or blockage.. this article was written for chickens but should still be valid.. Have you checked the crop function?

Sounds like it's hiding symptoms not treating them.. sometimes the pain relief is important just to allow the body to relax enough to heal itself.. Identifying the issue is most important before hiding symptoms unless you're just doing hospice.

What is her age? What is her normal feed routine including treats and supplements? How long has she been unwell for? When was her last egg, is she passing droppings? What country are you in?

Sorry you both face this, hope you find answers quickly! :fl

Perhaps so. Thank you for the link!

Yes, likely so. She got a lot worse as soon as she stopped taking the painkillers, so we were really worried. It isn’t exactly just a painkiller though. It helps treat swelling, so we think she might be swelling somewhere on the inside. She stopped shaking her head with her mouth open and she was a lot more rebellious, so we assumed it helped treat some of her symptoms along with her antibiotics.

Right. We’re going to give her vitamin A and some calcium now since she won’t eat.
We think she might be needing vitamin A and D, so we’re going to give those two vitamins to her and wait for her to slowly get better.

She’s currently one years and some months old. We ran out of duck feed around two weeks ago. It’s taking awhile to have it delivered, so we’re giving her cooked tomatoes and eggs and corn as her main courses for now. I’ve read that tomatoes and eggs has a good amount of vitamins and are okay for ducks to eat. While it isn’t natural, we assumed tomatoes and eggs would help her get better since they have a certain vitamin that helps strengthen legs. We first assumed it was niacin defiency until we got the blood test results.

She doesn’t get many treats these few days since tomatoes and eggs were supposed to be her treat. She does drink soybean once every few days though. It’s nutritious and she’s been drinking it for a long time, completely fine.

For supplements, we used to give her nutritional yeast. We haven’t after she got the antibiotics and painkiller, which was around a week and some days ago.

She’s been very unwell for around fifteen hours now. At first, it was just a bit, so we assumed she was just tired after messing around. However, she didn’t get better and started feeling worse.

She hasn’t been laying for the past few days. I don’t remember exactly when, but around five or six days ago. We haven’t seen any droppings this week. We’re in Canada.

It’s okay, thank you for the help!
She seems a little better now after some sleep and she’s still drinking, but she isn’t eating at all.
