Please Hold My Hand

Do you have a weasel too?? Temps in still airs can be quite tricky--that would just give you some extra insurance the that the temps in the eggs were perfect!

gOOD LUCK.

Not yet. I was gonna go get one this evening, but we are in the middle of a blizzard. We are getting 2" of snow an hour. The County Road Comissioner who lives just down the road just stuck the county snow plow in the ditch. He just could not see where he was going. He's been plowing for like 40 years and this is the first time he stuck a plow. He's not happy. Anyway, I'm not going out till the roads a way better, hope that's sometime before spring. I'll get a wessel then.

Hi,
I have eggs being shipped to me tommorrow...silkies!
This will be my first hatch...I'm excited...trying to act "calm", you know...no big deal...secretly I've checked on the Therm. several times in the night...I've had it running for 3 days now...not to mention the checks in the day time!
My hygrometer is driving me

CRAZY! My therm.'s are reading different too, by 2 to 3 degrees...

I'm going to buy another one tomorrow! One with a probe...can't get the other thing to read sensible...I've never gotten it up to 50% much less 70% like your supposed to on the last days:he
My incubator is a Little Giant, Still air, no egg turner..besides me.
So here's hoping:fl

Hey You, I and OkiChick can hold hands and pace together.

. I was pretty fortunate, mine went right to specs and held. I had to lower my humidity so I opened the vents went down. Karma must be on my side tonight.

I dread the thought of being the egg turner. I hope lifting one side then the other works. If I don't have to have standing water I may be OK.

I was very nervous about my eggs hatching well too. And they did. So I am very happy about that. I candled mine every day. (there were only 6)

I don't know enough to offer advice, but I will wish you good luck.

Here's a pic of one of my new babies:

I hope yours come out healthy and strong. The time goes by quicker than you think it will.

So did all 6 of your eggs hatch?
I am so worried about only having 6 Buff Orps and 6 Black Australorps eggs coming. I've ordered a dozen of everything else just to be sure to get a good number. Isn't it unusual to get a 100% hatch rate?

Hi Theresa. Yes 100% is pretty hard to accomplish. There are alot of reasons an egg dosen't hatch. It may not be fertile, the embreo may have problems in developing, and of course the most common problem, our incubators just ain't as good at regulating temp and humidity as a hen.
I'm shooting for about 50%. I'm hoping for more, but if I get 20 baby chicks from the 36 eggs in the incubator I'll be happy. More, of course, is better.

I have read about people getting 80 to 90 percent.

Hey Sweetshoplady, what a beautiful chick. Thank you for your kind words.

The time goes by quicker than you think it will.

I sure hope so.

I set the other 18 in this morning. Temps and humidity looked fine. Day 1 has begun.

I've set a countdown meter I have in the chicken toolbar I downloaded. It tells how many hours I have left to wait. Don't know if thats a good thing or bad.

Thanks everyone,

How's everyone doing?
Did your eggs come yet ParsonsWife?
Chickenranchwife, hows your hatch going?

Mine are just sitting there, temps have been kinda OK. I think I'm adjusting the thermostat to much. Still haven't gotten a chance to get a water wesel (sp?) Hope to get into town today. The weather has been pretty(insert the word for the dice game at the casino and put a Y on the end) here. Lots of snow and ice. I heard Tennesee and Kentucky got hit real bad, so I certainly can't complain. Hope everyone down there is OK.
