Please Hold My Hand

Thank You chickenranchwife. Right I have no idea. I do know I killed the egg I tried to candle. I guess I just don't understand.
There's a lot to learn in this chicken stuff

Why do you think you killed the egg you candled?

Never mind...I went back and saw why you said that. I dropped one once too....had a nice developing chick in it

Another good reason to candle is because you can check on the air cell to see if it's growing like it should. If a bad egg explodes there's gonna be all sorts of nasty bacteria on the other eggs.

Katy, yea I should have explained better.

How often does an egg explode? I guess I'm trying to figure out what my chances are. Let me put it this way, at times I am not a nimble as I once was and I wondering if candling is worth the chance. So if an egg explodes in the bator it will affect the other eggs to some degree even if I cleaned the bator.

I guess I'm gonna have to get my butt in gear and make a like I seen in the Learning center so I'm not trying to balance an egg, a flash lite and some construction paper.

I candled...and it was much easier than I thought...I had candled a coupla times before...was worried, afraid of what I was or wasn't seeing...I don't think I will candle before day 14 again...

There were 8 eggs tossed.
2 had blood rings
6 were clear

13 were dark inside, except the ends....

Felt brave and confident in what I was seeing!

I love this... now just onto the hatch...

Today is day 14 for me!

I still worry about dropping another and it may happen yet again some day.

I don't think there's any way to clean an exploded egg's goop off the other eggs.

I have pulled a couple eggs during different hatches that started getting stinky.....those I'm sure would have popped if I hadn't gotten them out. As far as candling goes that didn't find the smelly egg.....my nose did! I like candling to check on the air cell growth and just to see them little buggers moving around.....that part never gets old for me no matter how many times I do it. To me it's part of the fun of hatching my own chicks.

I have my first pip! The membrane is whitish though..I hope the chick can get out. I did wet it a teensy bit, with warm water. It was also peeping too

I heard some more peeping coming from another egg, not yet pipped.

Now the one that is pipped, the pip is closer to the small side; is this normal? I thought they had to pip through the air cell. I hope I don't have to do too much intervention! I did take out an egg that I thought was developing for the longest time, but after candling it again quick, I could tell it stopped. It had a small embryo in it

First let me say...leave the lid shut!!

It's normal for the area right around the pip to look whitish like it's dried out. That doesn't mean that inside the shell it's too dry. Believe me I know it's hard, but the best thing you can do is leave them alone. They should pip closer to the big end, but they don't always.

Thank you Katy; I will sit on my hands from now on, like I've read so many times before, lol! It's so hard though, and add to the fact that this is my first hatch, I was worried my humidity was too high at the beginning, and I guess I'm also worried that something I've done along the way has messed something up, and I need to "fix" whatever I think I've done wrong

One good thing abbout today-I'm getting exercise! My bator is in our lower level, and we have a multi-level home. My son is in his crib at the top level, so I'm going up and down 3 flights (granted only 7 steps each) alot
