I was waiting to see if someone would mention the crowing!
The ones I had were very noisy- the most crowingest roosters ever. But one Silver Laced really won the award- he never let 2 minutes pass without crowing at least once..!
Found it interesting so many reported them as poor layers, the ones I had were "fair-good" layers. Perhaps today's stock is a little different, I had mine oh maybe 10 years ago. Surprised at the heat problem also- summers always are 110-120F and don't recall any of them having problems with the heat, figured it was because they were skinny..
None of the roosters I had attacked people but have heard of a few nasty roosters though.
Other bad things- they spook too easy, at first it was cute but after the 123,234,543th time of a Polish flying up and scratching up my legs cuz he got "surprised"(despite running to me!) that I was "suddenly there", it became a not-funny-at-all annoyance. I had a very sweet and unusually calm frizzled hen.. loved her because she was well, a calm Polish! However one time as I was walking into the pen carrying a bucket of water...... she suddenly freaked for the first time ever and she leapt straight up into bottom of the bucket and died immediately. That was kind of the last straw(was severely bummed out by that) plus the incessant crowing of the roosters so there are no longer any Polish here.
The plus side, they WERE fun most of the time- mine were free range and they did surprisingly well. The only ones that had serious trouble were the ones that had large and rounded crests with thick beards that met the crest, effectively blinding them. What worked was simply trimming off the "muffs" part and they would be fine after that.
