I need help its not a chicken but a peacock. I have been neglectful I will start by saying that firstly. So I am sorry before I get chastized. He has been fed a good 20% feed and watered. I know nothing about peafowl. We purchaced him at the auction and I was waiting to make sure he didnt have any disease and that I could get rid of some of my big boy roosters so they didnt pick on everyone. So I caged him like I have caged my new chickens MANY MANY MANY times. The cage was smaller but he could stand and had food and water he cold also lay down and walk a little. I moved my last large Roo into a big cage to give him to his new home tomorrow. So I put everyone that was in the cage in the coupe tonight. Well after I took him out and set him on the ground his legs look messed up now. I didnt notice it while he was in the cage but here is where the neglect comes in because I would feed water and go. Or had the kids feed and water. He is flighty so the kids never took him out and I have been busy and havent given him any time out or on the ground in about 3 almost 4 weeks. What can I do please help? I feel so terrible right now. When I put him down in the coupe none of the hens or Gunieas or Banny Roos are messing with him. He hobbled to the food and water. But it is like he is walking on his legs not his feet!! PLEASE HELP !!!

I am not sure! I just put him in the coop with the girls about 3 hours ago after dark. I just know he seems to be walking like I said on his legs not his feet. I could only hope that is all it is and will get better on its own. I have just read a few things tonight that say that peafowl have delicate legs etc. I feel like such a baffon...

This post needs to be in the peafowl area. I had a similar situation that had nothing to do with pen size and mine's leg looked almost as bad at one time. I treated him with vitamin C complex in his water, and he is well now. I don't know if he grew out of it or if the vitamins fixed it. Your youngster need more protein. Cat food wihtout hairball control would help.

I think I read somewhere it is a vitamin deficiency of some sort (don't remember the vitamin. I would post in the peafowl area and see if someone has had experience with this. If I remember correctly, treating for the vitamin deficiency corrected the problem over time...I just wish I remembered what he post was called, etc so I could help ya more. Maybe do a search on here for vitamin deficiency and legs.

That is what someone posted a possible vitamin defficency. I am going to hopefully make it to the feed store today and see what they have. It doesnt feel broke but I am unsure if the tendon is slipped how do I check/correct that? Thanks for all suggestions I will try anything to help this little guy out!

I hate to say this, but he might has Merk deseas, it happened with my second patch of chickens last year, and I got red of all of them
