I had a polish pullet hurt her leg and she has been recovering and I clean her bedding daily and she eats and drinks regularly but now if I get near her she freaks out and begins gasping for air I don’t know what to do I gave her VetRX and made sure her food and water was fresh I don’t know how I would do it but should I put her out of her misery or is there anything I can do

Please post photos of her and her leg?
Can she walk at all?

Were you having to chase her around to catch her? Sounds like she's very stressed when you handle her and the gasping is a stress and/or pain response not respiratory illness. I would not use the VetRx on her.

Try approaching her calmly and don't chase. Talk to her and don't grab.

If she's improving, then give her time and let her be. Provide her with a nutritionally balanced chick started and B-Complex vitamins as suggest in your other threads.

Hmmm
That looks more like a congenital defect
*to my non chicken owning self*
👆 disclaimer complete 😂
(like it would have been like that from the time she hatched....)?

When you did catch her, did you try to straighten her toes on that foot?

How many birds do you have?
How big is their coop/ run?
How old is she?
How long have you had her?
What have you been feeding?
Are treats a part of their “feed”?
If so, what treats?
How much water?
And, not judging (with any of these questions- more info allows us to provide more appropriate advice), just asking, are you -sure- this is a new problem?
If so, how long ago did it start?

(Phew deep breath Ri deep breath) umm no thats not how it happened I accidentally left my chickens in the coop for an extra hour and she got stepped on *best theory* and I have tried straightening the toes she just gets scared and doesn’t have the best control over that foot.

1. I have 13 chickens
2. I forgot the exact square footage but enough for 23 in the coop and enough for 30 something in the run
3. 5 months 1 week
4. 5 months or since she was one week
5. I have one feeder with finisher food/right before laying age which brand I forgot and another with chicken seed mostly don Roberto but I have been using another brand after running out
6.they have a trough that is about 2x1 feet that is cleaned daily and the smaller ones stand on the edge while drinking and the bigger ones just drink out of it
7. And yes 💯 sure I observe their habits daily and spend lots of time with them the pictures is like Monday it’s been healing and it happened 1 week ago i believe

Have you been giving her the vitamins as suggested in all of your other threads?

If she was stepped on - do you think the toes or foot are broken? Are you able to straighten them out?
You could try splinting them to see if that helps if you feel the curling is due to fracture.

It does sound like she's scared, that's the reason for the gasping. If she's able to move about with her flock and is not getting picked at, I'd be inclined to let her with her flock and treat her from there instead of leaving her caged up all day which is stressful.

The flock stays near her and I feel and it’s not broken I tried splinting the toes but it’s hard and I don’t know how she can’t move around well she either sits next to the silkie through the fence or goes into her cat carrier with pine to rest she is awake not sleeping but resting the leg and she moves around only to eat and drink
