AND Cynthia is the reason I got my first and now a chick Barred Rock. I have to say that this month old BR chick is a real character. She'll come over and taste my hair, then do a little jumpy dance like she's playing with me. And loves to be touched. What a sweetie.

They are still my favorites, Karen. My 28 week old BR girls are finally showing real interest in the nests. Dottie is testing out one then the other. I really think her first egg will be today. They are so sweet, beautiful and as a friend said, "broad as barns".

My silver penciled flock produced their first progeny. The first chick hatched yesterday!! many many more in the bator!

Does anone on this thread start their chicks on turkey starter. Many judges and breeders here have told me they keep them on it for about 3-4 months

Dottie laid her first egg today on her 28 week birthday. Didn't get a picture of her since I let them out and she ran out of sight, but here are pics of her egg, plus Wynette, Rex and Ida.

*Rex is missing lots of saddle feathers from my neurotic Olive Egger (now rehomed) who was too drawn to his "test pattern"*
