Here are the Plymouth Rocks I got today. Obviously, the one in the middle is not Barred. She is an Ameraucana. So far, all I know about them is that they are beautiful and they seem to be content around people. I am very new to chickens and am excited to learn about them.

Hi Tslips\\\\

Nice birds. Are you just starting out with keeping poultry?

I keep silver-pencilled PRs (just 3 hens with breeding roosters), and I also have 2 easter eggers that lay green eggs. I didn't intend to get easter eggers, but was given a black hen that lays a green egg. She laid a few fertile eggs after I received her and I hatched one out, so now I have 2 hens that lay green eggs. I intend to keep them because while I hatch out my silver pencilled PR's eggs this spring I will still have a source for eating eggs. I just hate the thought of eating store bought eggs, unless I really have to.

Hoping to have a dozen or so good quality SPPR hens by next fall, after I cull out what I don't want to keep.

Good luck with your barred rocks and have fun with your easter egger:clap

Thanks Tyler (and everyone else)....I had thought about showing at Newnan, but after the comments from a few poultry judges I don't think they are quite ready. May do it anyway, just for the experience....just not sure yet

I'm hatching a bunch right now...60 in the incubator already. Hoping next years "keepers" will be even better

Do it anyway. Then you will see how they stack up against the whites. Compare the bodies. It also gets the birds cage trained so that when you go for real, they are already use to that kind of activity. The best chicken in the world is not going to win if it isn't showing right.

Thanks Walt!! The show is late Feb or March (cant remember). Perhaps you can help me pick a "decent pair" to take. Dont want to TOTALLY embarrass myself,
