Plymouth Rock thread!

Fred.....they are looking for White Rocks I think....maybe Weavers Rocks in Fla?

Oh yeah! Absolutely. Barred or White. Got 'em covered. Those rare, old time Colonial Rocks too!

I would like to begin raising and breeding white plymouth rocks. Where does one get the pure breed stock to begin? Have been raising chickens for about a year and have buff orphington, barred rock, rhode island red, and a white rock hen and rooster. These are all hatchery birds. My favorites are the white rocks and think it will be an enjoyable and educational pass time to breed pure white rocks. Any information you can give will be appreciated.

If you're not opposed to shipping Jim Volk has some of the best White Rocks in the country. He is in WA state. You can find his contact info on the Plymouth Rock Club website.

You should get them from me!! Of course!!

Actually, it depends on what you want. Breeder quality Barred Rocks are just so wonderful and true to the breeds barring, personality and vigor. Not a thing wrong with hatchery/feed store birds, but they are often quite "off" from the size, temperament and vigor of a true bred Barred Rock, just saying. I've had both over the years and yes, there is a difference.

I posted some photos about 10 posts back of some birds, showing the difference. All the birds posted are from our flock.
Ok, I will look at them...thank you! And I'll keep your information for future...

My splash Plymouth Rock/buff Orpington hybrids are starting to get feathers in! The roosters have buff-shouldered wings with blue tips and creamy light-buff breasts with blue speckles!

Hi Silver Rock

Thanks for posting pics of your spprs. The pullets' pencilling is developing beautifully. And look at those very yellow legs! I'm envious:clap

Hi PEI chicken
Thank you, my goal is to have a flock of SPPR as nice as yours some day.
