Are there any hard feathers in the tail? Mine have very soft feathers everywhere. The roosters do have hard feathers.

It just says broad and overlapping for the male it says that the lesser sickles and covets are to almost conceal the stiff main tail feathers I've read that lesser quality birds have narrower feathers I don't know if that makes them softer or stiffer....my PR's have broad firm feathers not really soft

So beautiful!!!
Yard full o' rocks :

Ok...I showed off my Columbian Rocks a few weeks back (they are getting better by the day BTW), but here are a few pix of my Barred Rocks from today. They are approx 15 weeks old and I have a very nice group of pullets coming along with GREAT type....long backs, tails are correct, size is good and barring is excellent. I also have a cockerel from another bloodline that I will be using as an outcross either this Fall or next Spring...last 3 pix are of him.

Take a look

My 3rd Columbian Rock pullet started laying over the weekend!! Hoping her 2 sisters are not too far behind! I would love to put about 25 chicks on the ground before it turns off cold here (I could only hope cool weather was around the corner!!, LOL)...but we certainly could use a good bit of rain! The girls are 22 weeks old this Thursday....so they are close to "right on time"

Hey, wait a cotton pickin' minute...............my SPPR girls are going to be 24 weeks old this Friday and neither of them show any indication of laying anytime soon. Their combs/wattles are pink, but not the bright red that chickens usually get before they start laying.

I just figured it was the "slow maturing" part of the breed, but now with yours laying, I feel ripped off.

not really)

Could be that we're still having outrageously HOT weather here and things are a bit cooler in Northern Cal ?? I have sooooo many folks anxiously awaiting these girls to "get going", maybe the Good Lord just helped me along a little.

I just need to check fertility as the 3 boys in this coop seem to be a bit clumsy and a little amateurish in their approach....

Frank Good Fellow of Canada male bird has great tail and lift. True to the breed of Plymouth Rocks

100_1294.jpg

One of my White Rock Large Fowl cockerels and his brother two years ago had great spread tails and lift. These male come from a strain that is about 60 years old and line breed each year.

I cant find any pictures of females right now but go to my picturetrail site and look at some nice females tails. Hope this helps you see what the old fashion Heratage White Rocks look like today. Not many alive maybe about 200 in the USA. Bob Blosl Secetary Plymouth Rock Fanciers Club of America

Congratulations Scott.......

Some of my Early Spring Chicks are starting to lay as well. Too bad they were not seperated into breeding flocks that early.

But now that they are I won't be mixing them again! lol
