I have a Polish Rooster who got live a couple weeks ago, I’ve treated the whole flock, and coop, everyone else is fine expect poor Seymour. I don’t see signs of lice but he’s loosing neck feathers, he seems tired, his skin looks scabby and irritated, and now tonight his eyes look swollen and has white gunk in them. I’ve treated his neck with polysporin, his eyes with polysporin eyedrops, he had access to a dust bath with DE, did a dewormer yesterday just incase, I’m at a loss what to do. On top of this I live in rural northern Canada, so access to proper poultry medication and quick access to the little I can get it very limited. It was hard to get photos of his eyes so I had to while he was roosting.

Hi,

Can you get permetherin (garden dust) there? I'd make sure he was lice free by powdering him over with that, and treat the coop with it too.

Part of the problem could be he's run down and a vitamin boost would help. We've got Poultry Cell and would put that in our chicken's water every other day and alternate with probiotics.

A high-protein diet would help him grow feathers back. An all-flock here is usually around 18-20% protein. You can also try feeding him/them scrambled eggs, canned tuna in water, canned cat food, etc., as treats. Meal worms are also high protein but very high in fat too, so just a few of those if you have any.

As for the white gunk in his eyes, that's most concerning as it could be an infection. I would rinse his eyes with a saline solution and see if you can determine if that white stuff is hard, like puss, or something else. Here's an informative post by @Eggcessive that should be helpful to you. https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...nce-inside-chickens-eye.1141685/post-22233854

The scabs may be due to his scratching at the lice. In Canada, permethrin is not available. If you have a local vet, they might prescribe something for the lice. Some use a spot on product in a tiny dose, which might be used since he doesn’t lay eggs. Lice hatch from the eggs about every 10 days, so repeated treatment may be necessary for a time. Bedding and the area where he is kept may also need to be removed and replaced after treating the facilities. You might get some sulfur powder online, and use. That can be put in a dust bath with dirt as well.

The eye gunk and respiratory infection are concerning, and could be MG. Tylosin powder 1 tsp per gallon of water can treat symptoms along with treating the eye. That has to cone from a vet in Canada. He could carry MG to your other chickens.

Yes, they have access and I’ve dawn dishsoap bathed and then dusted it myself with diatomaceous earth sand.
Vitamins (we have RoosterBooster here as a water additive)
Their scratch also has mealworms mixed into it. They’re on 19% all flock, as we have guniea hens as well.

I’ve been treating with Ivermectin and a spray we have here called “Doktor Doom” which seems to treated the lice, along with a cool clean out. There’s no evidence of lice over the last week but his skin is still really bad.

As for the respiratory issues, I’ve only noticed him being lethargic the last few days, and then the eye puss and swelling last night. No breathing or coughing issues that I can notice.
