Polish Thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If your polish chicken has had its head plucked or scalped by its peers will the feathers grow back? I have hesitated to get them because I had a rooster and my flock kept cornering him and doing this to him. I finally sold him because I felt so bad for him. I got a new one and have silkies too a much smaller flock these days... now but I'm worried because of my past experience . Does anyone know?

MY PARTRIDGE SILKIE GOT CANNIBALIZED BY A MARANS ON THE ROOST BEFORE WE REALIZED THE SILKIE WAS NOT MOLTING BUT BEING EATEN ALIVE -- EVEN HER OUTER BODY FEATHERS AND WALNUT COMB WERE GONE!

BABY PHOTO -- SHE USED TO BE SUCH A PRETTY LITTLE BALL OF PARTRIDGE FLUFF.

TODAY AT 5 YRS OLD SHE DID GROW BACK HER FEATHERS BUT NOT HER COMB -- AND FEATHERS NOT AS FULL OR FLUFFY AS HER BABY PHOTO -- BUT THE FEATHERS DID GROW BACK.

I feel you. We worked really hard on Integration and then ended up with 5 new standard size hens. I just gave up at that point. It would have been nice if I could have made it work. It's ok though lol.

After reading what you all have said about difficulties introducing and keeping Polish with other breeds, my husband agreed to help me build an add on to the coop and run just for my polish. They aren't big enough to go out quite yet, but it won't be long.

I don't blame you that's what we are doing. Hopefully we will have it done soon..

My DH loves his Silkies so can't imagine not having them in our flock. After having bad experiences keeping dual purpose or heavy breeds with our gentle Silkies, we re-homed all our big bully breeds and just kept gentle breeds around our Silkies -- like Ameraucana and Breda. The eggs aren't as plentiful any more but enough for just the two of us. Our gentle birds are more for backyard enjoyment and their eggs are just as useful a bonus as the eggs were from the big bully breeds!

Yes, its beak is a little bit crooked but that's because I've had to babysit it ever since I got her/him. She/He came with a cut on its beak and started growing crooked and so I've had to trim it a lot. I also have no idea why its eyes are so dark, I thought polish had red eyes, but then again, it is hatchery stock... Your silver laced is gorgeous. Wow! those are some very dark eyes.

I too have a special needs chicken. She had wry neck so bad that her head rested on her back every time she drank. I felt so bad for her, but there isn't a whole lot you can do besides give vitamins and hope. She eventually recovered, but her neck still seems a little shaky when looking up, and sometimes I get the impression that she can't see straight. Once she flew off a perch to the roost and ended up slamming right into the perch and falling 6 feet to the ground. I was scared to death. Fortunately, she is okay. I made some lower roosts and some roost-steps for her, so now she can go to bed with all of the others without a problem. 'Crook Neck' has a special place in my heart.

I'm a newbie. They are not all Polish. I have become addictive chickens. I only wanted 3 to start off with but got more of course. I have a total of 9 right now. 6 of those were a week apart and was raised together. I have them in the coop and got 3 more chicks in the coop but they are in little dog create. My older chickens are 8 weeks and the small chicks are 4 weeks. A couple of the older ones are still pecking at them. I put the baby chicks with them in their on cage hoping they would not do that. Is there something else I may could do so they all will get a long so i don't have to keep them separated.

You can try intergration one at a time, I usually distract with lots of clover&treats so they can all be busy father yummy stuff, once they are all fat, full and sleepy there using much reason to bicker&peck. As long. As there's plenty of spots to roost&dust they generally seem unintrested in pecking at each other. Good luck!

HELP! My two suspected male buff laced polish are only THREE weeks old. they had an all-out cock fight when I took them (and the others) to explore their new outside enclosure. Will they settle down and get along after they adjust to the change? or do they need to be separated asap?
I am so sorry to offend anyone with these pictures... I felt the only way for to realize you guys that it is a real fight is for you to see them. please help!
