poll: are you legal or an outlaw?

Reading all these people who have to sneak and worry about ordinances sure makes me VERY happy to live in a rural farming town. So what if I have to drive 30 minutes to go to the feed store? So what if I have to drive 2 hours to go to the nearest city?! We don't even have building codes in my county. Makes coop building so much easier.

legal for now (no chickens yet:p )
but we live on a .14 acre property in a DR 5.5 zone (whatever that means). Our ordinance says no fowl on less then 1 acre. I am gonna pretend I didnt read that ... anyway getting chicks first week of August, excited!

Legal when I get rid of my 2 roosters because of a noise ordinance. But looking for a place outside city limits as I want 2 goats.

We are legal -- but the process to become so was so long and drawn out, just not to be believed. And now I have an entirely different set of problems to worry about -- like getting my chickens to use their ramp so they can get into their run, and so on, which I infinitely prefer to deal with.

We are legal though if I want to upgrade my coop then the existing one will have to leave our 15 acre property ... darn town considers it an outbuilding and we are only allowed 2! Maybe we should just put an addition on our barn for more peeps!

We opted to NOT bring in roosters in an effort to keep peace with the neighbors. Our noise ordinance calls for a $25 fine for each offense if a dog barks and causes distress to a neighbor. We had someone complain about our dogs a few years ago. He kept a log of all of the times he heard a dog barking and pinned it on ours because we have many, though they all are house dogs. Animal control brought me a copy and within the last logged week I was able to prove that I was out of town (at dog shows) 6 of the 7 days that had offenses. Since there were times noted at ALL hours of the day/night we decided to let the neighbor know when WE heard barking that didn't belong to our dogs and we drove around to find the location of the offenders. When we got home from our drive arounds we'd call him to ask if he heard the dog and to let him know which address it was located at so that he could add it to his log. After two calls to him between 10 pm and 1am he said that he wasn't logging barking anymore. We haven't had any complaints since. (Cranky neighbor passed away over the winter.)

Our dogs live in the house but they do play in the yard and occasionally that entails verbal expression. I was afraid that if we added an early morning roo serenade we might push the envelope with other neighbors so our ladies are man-less. Legal, but man-less!

We are allowed to have up to 25 chickens but the coop has to be 50 feet from a neighbor's home. Our lots are only about 70 feet wide and 20 feet behind the house so the coop is not legal even though the chickens are.

Tried to be legal. I went to the town and asked about a permit and was told " We have tried to enforce poultry laws in the past. There is nothing on the books that allow us to do it and we certainly dont have the funds for a "Chicken enforcement officer".

So I figure as long as my neighbors continue to like my chickens, im fine. I have a new family moving in soon though. My argument will be "Hey, they were here before you".
