I do not know if this is true or not, but I have read that while a hawk won't enter a confined space, an owl will not hesitate to follow the chickens right into their coop.

I've never lost a bird to a predator.

I have lost them to disease before though.

Yes. I actually grabbed the owl with a net because it had pinned down a chicken. I saw the owl doing it multiple times and it would wait outside the coop

Most of mine die of old age. Though my Sapphire Gems have had a lot of reproductive problems normally seen in super layers.

We’ve had chickens for years. Our biggest problem in central Texas is hawks and in the Spring we get massive rat snakes that love to try to get to our baby chicks and will kill larger hens as well.

I've seen videos on YouTube of hawks entering a covered chicken run. I don't know if that's true because it wasn't a solid roof or not but still interesting. I guess we shouldn't ever think an animal won't do something when they're hungry.
