POLL: How much do you pay for a 50# bag of feed???

erinm, if you give blue seal a call they will be able to give you the equivalent, you might even get coupons for it. I work at a store that sells blue seal feeds, they are a good company to deal with. I only feed my chickens blue seal, they never change their formula like other companies do and they have not been affected by the recalls - its a good quality feed. Here's a link to their website:

In southern Maine, Blue Seal Organic Life starter crumbles $22.70/50#. The non-organic is about half that.

ErinM-
I have the Blue Seal pmphlet here... looks like the regular feed for layer chix is either "Layer", "EggMaker Crumbles". Their Organic Life is called Layer Pellets.

I pay about $8.50 for a 50# bag of Kent brand feed. The price sometimes is a little lower & sometimes a little higher. I think it all depends on the gas & corn prices in my area. I used to feed a store brand from Rural King but was so unhappy with it I changed brands. The store brand was $7.49 for 50# bag.

Why is organic a "ripoff", other than its twice as expensive??

I REALLY don't want any persicide/herbicide residues in my food, nor any animal by-products that might have antibiotic/hormone residues from ground up livers. Organic feed should be made from grains not treated with any of that, and I'm willing to pay more for it. I had breast cancer and I don't want to get it again, nor do I want my daughter getting it.

No organic avalible here. I am in NEPA here is my price list

laying mash 50lb- $7.95
cracked corn 50lb- $6.95
medicated chick starter- .35 cents a lb (possibly has gone down in price since I last bought)

I also mix oil sunflowerseeds in my cracked corn as an added treat

oil sunflower seeds 50lb- $14.50 but I think they went down with spring have to buy today so I can updat that tonight.
