Pomeranian Goose Breed Thread

Thanks

I was wondering because a couple of my young ones got right of the ground yesterday - with the adults madly calling chasing after on the ground. We did have a rather full on wind though so that might have helped them to "launch".

Argh....no eggs yet!

Last year they began laying in December, so I was shocked to see December come and go and now most of January too...and still no eggs. They are actively breeding all day long in the pond and their is a perfect nest built in my oldest gooses quarters, but the only deposit I find their every day is made by one of my Runner Ducks.

One of my Pom females, Tex, (from Kawonu's stock) made herself a lovely nest overnight last night and was sitting in it this morning. I was a bit disappointed that their was no egg when she left. However, about 2 PM, I noticed her go into the breeding barn for about 20 minutes. When I collected eggs at 3 PM, I went to check the barn and viola...right in her nest was an egg! It was a nice sized egg....I didn't weigh it yet, but it looks to be in the ball park size-wise.

Thanks Bhonkers.

Once everybody is laying, I will be stealing all the eggs from all the girls (7 Poms and 1 Toulouse). Once they are getting toward the end of the breeding season and I have hatched all the goslings I need, plus filled my egg orders, I will let each of them keep their eggs and see what they do. Each couple has their own stall (locked in it at night) so if they are sitting a nest, they cannot see the lady in the next cubby. That way, if one of the girls manages to hatch goslings...hopefully the others won't get up and leave their nests to "help" with the babies...Sounds good in theory anyway.

Hi guys! I am looking for some opinions... I am thinking of ordering about 10 "show quality" goslings from Strombergs. Poms of course. Maybe half grey and half buff. Has anyone bought from them and had a good experience with goslings? They are pricy so I was hoping for some feed back before I ordered... When I talked to them about ordering the lady made it sound like they were out sourcing from a reputable breeder.

Also, for those of you with buffs and greys does it matter if you let them all run together and just hatch whatever color goslings pop out? Could some one please give me a clue as to the color genetics in these guys?

Thanks!
