Pomeranian Goose Breed Thread

Some photos I took yesterday, they are settling in well & fast becoming a favorite of mine

I am so glad they have such a nice home and loving "mom". It always makes me feel SO much better to know they are being taken care of and loved!

I am trying to figure out my breeding pens. The two ganders are squaring off already. I really need some luck hatching out another goose or two next year so that my ratio is higher for females. Right now its even.

I run a one-to-one ratio right now: I have 8 ganders to my 8 geese. I have only had a couple fights between the boys and it was neck wrestling at its worst point: Zero injuries. However, good luck making your selections. Are your males and females unrelated?

Neck wrestling! and chest bumping and backbiting... that's what I have. It rather funny but only because it isn't violent at this point and I have no desire to let it get there either. My geese are... sort of unrelated. Its a bit of a story. Four geese, two pairs, were bought by their original owner, and then he let them loose. He offered them for sale but then a storm came along and he says it blew the door open and they ran off. He offered them to me for free if they came back. It was weeks of waiting. They came back and then disappeared again. So when the two that returned came back and were caught, one with a new scar on her head, I also made sure I got any eggs that were in the barn. Only one hatched. IDK if it is from this pair or the other or a mix. I have a total of three Poms here, just those three, and then I have three Sebs here which are white and saddleback for a total of six geese, three ganders, three geese. Hence my comment about really needing another goose. I asked the woman up here about having another but I am reluctant to get another from the same pool these already came out of. And of course, as you pointed out, there are so few folks with them. I am going to cross my fingers and hope for goslings from one of you this spring I guess. You are all so far away. It'll be a nail biting shipment for sure.

Ashandvine I wish you were closer so I could help you out. I am still looking to move around 10 young geese. Granted some are strictly pet quality, but some are very nice. I raised four different batches of about 12 per batch this summer. Sold most , am keeping some, lost 10 in one night to a predator(coyote) but overall this has been a very enjoyable experience. My first batch is by far the most friendly, probably due to the amount of time I spent with them. I would recommend this breed to anyone who wants geese but would advise them to get them as gosling so they could get them as tame as they would like. Good luck on your search.

Its almost shipping weather again: Their is a brief window in the fall when it finally cools off here in the South, but isn't too cold yet in the North (if is still 90 during the day here). Shipping adult birds can be pricey, but if you could get them, then they would be settled in before next season.

I have been talking to a lady on Facebook that may be parting with some or all of her Pomeranians: I just sent her a friend request. I "Think" she is in New England from the groups she is in. She is a serious long-time breeder and has very nice birds in both colors.
Ashandvine....do you use Facebook? She posted on the Pomeranian group on there (we also have a waterfowl fanciers group too).

I am not a FBer. I tried a little. Its too weird. I could try again though. There is a Laurie up this way, not me, who has some and has for a while. She is who mine came from originally 4 years ago.

Okay I found Rhonda in the fanciers group and I did see Laurie MM in the other Pom closed group but no statements about who is getting out or who is where. You have muscovies! I just got a few-- will have to pm about them.

It is the top post by Lauri Mackie Malcom on the Pomeranian thread. As to the Muscovy's, I only have the French Whites...great characters!

Huh! I know she is selling locally but didn't hear anything about her wanting to get out of them entirely. Well, this might be the chance I needed I guess. I will contact her. Here geese might be distantly related but its better than nothing. Thanks.
