Bravo to the goose!  I admire a brave animal.  Is that a puncture near the nostril?  I wouldn't worry much about the scratches but I would treat with some tea tree oil or at least rinse with some really salty water.

Thanks I will do that he really is a brave boy to protect his home.

I now have four new goslings as of last Saturday. decided to set early eggs. I have three gray saddles and one buff saddle. I originally set around a dozen eggs , but none of the (pullet) goose eggs hatched. They were pretty small to begin with. Two of the young geese have now gone broody, but have no eggs under them . I am wondering if they will eventually give up and lay another clutch of eggs. I will post some pictures as soon as I can get better half to post them for me.

Fowl Menagerie you must have yours in a spa. LOL I'm about 60 miles south of you and the only sign that eggs might be on the way is the males fighting. Hoping to get some youngsters from the ones I got from you last summer.

First 2 eggs showed up this morning. They are on the smaller side, but the girls won't be a year old until the middle of May. I'm in northern KY. So those of you further north should be getting eggs soon.

Mine FINALLY started laying about 10 days ago. As of now, 7 of the 10 girls have laid at least one egg. I am still waiting on my oldest goose (4 years old) to lay her first egg. Amazingly, even the smallest pullet eggs from my four 1st year girls have all been fertile. I am setting about 8 today and already have two in cooking!

I have been leaving an egg in each nest. and collecting the new egg. In the past week something has been making a hole in the eggs or crushing them. Either way the eggs are obviously not usable. First thought was a chicken had found them and eating them. Left the chickens cooped and it happened again.Only happens in the buff pom's pen. Any suggestions as to waht is causing the damaged eggs?

In need of some advice.....I have two saddleback Pom geese sitting in the same nest. They are sisters. When I checked the nest tonight two eggs were in the process of hatching and I discovered a fully hatched baby dead. It was fully formed and completely normal looking. I'm guessing it got suffocated. I moved darla, out and blocked it so she couldn't get back in with her sister (Clyde) yes Clyde is a girl, thought she was a he as a gosling.... anyway, the nest really belongs to her (Clyde) now for my concern....I'm worried sick about the other hatching babies....will they suffocate under her? Will she move out of the way or is that how it's supposed to be? This is our first time....for all of us! Darla and Clyde are two and the proud daddy is my beloved yearling african gander Hansel.
Any input would be greatly appreciated....I don't want to intervene BUT I don't want to lose any more babies! I'm hoping that by just having one goose on the nest things will go as they should now?

Geese sharing nests is often a disaster anyway, and the fact that you actually had a live gosling hatch is great. Sadly, the geese are too silly about who has the eggs, that they can crush the gozzies. Now, what you could do is bring the hatching eggs indoors and put them under a lamp to keep them warm, and keep them damp, and when the gozzies are able to totter about, give them to her tomorrow, say, if it´s a nice warm day and see if she´ll put her wings out for them to cuddle into, which she should do if she´s still sitting, and see how she goes. Take out any extra eggs after 2 days as she´ll need to get those babies out of the nest and drinking etc. First-timer is a bit more bumpy. I did this with 2 of my geese this year as one of the goslings was crushed, and all worked out well.
