I am so dreadfully sorry that you are having to deal with this... she may well not make it through. but please rest assured that you are doing all that you can to help her be comfortable in the meantime... if she makes it through to another day then there is hope that she will get better. All you can do right now is to keep her warm and stress free.......

If you have some calcium/vitamin D..... you can try to give her some to help her pass an egg... keep her isolated and as advised before keep her in a darkened area... thinking of you both.

Well i couldnt believe my eyes this morning....Mavis is still alive!! im so relieved. i know we are not out of the woods yet....but we have hope. I have manged to get lots of water in her and also some mealworms... i have made her a little mash with oats, seeds, mealworms, honey, oregano and a splash of milk(for calcium). She seems so much stronger than last night and has had two healthy looking poops. im still keeping on a warm water bottle inside a crate. she is comfortable and warm. Should i give her another bath at some point? or let her get stronger? she is still unsteady on her legs...but they have a good strong grip i f i let her hold onto my finger, and they are not cold as before? is there anything anyone can reccomend? all advice would be gratefully received x I have only had my flock for two weeks and im devastated that i have come across such a complex situation.

Calcium may help her quickly if she is egg bound. Do you have an adult calcium tablet or Tums that you can crush to feed her in some applesauce or yogurt? im trying the tums thing right now. she seems sleepy again. and still is unable to stand. her wings are also droopy. im scared to bathe her again in case it finishes her off....

Mavis has had a tums tablet crushed up with some live yoghurt. I have also been holding a steaming flannel onto her vent and i also did the lubricated finger thing again (i hate that) she pooped on my hand and made a squeezing sound. She seems to be perking up a little and is currently tucking into half a tomato smoothered in live yoghurt....it seems this is the only thing that she is interested in eating. she has turned her beak up at everything else i have tried to entice her appetite with.

She would probably enjoy a hot bath. The heat relaxes the muscles. There is only a certain amount of time that hens can remain eggbound and live (if she is eggbound.) Good luck.

Mavis is currently receiving the steam treatment fingers crossed her vent is still pulsating. i may still bathe her again later and that will be her 7th bath up to date x

A quick exam will tell you if she is agg bound or not, just get some gloves, KY Jelly and gently check for an egg.









Steam bath is fine, but I would not give her a regular bath as it does sound like she is very sick and that might send her over the edge.
