Still chillin' with my peeps
I loved my Sarge. Some of you may remember my various posts about what a wonderful rooster he was. Sadly, he died in the line of duty, trying to protect his girls from a thieving, murdering coyote this past summer. My DH finally had a 6' chain link fence installed. Unfortunately it was too late for Sarge ( and several others
), but I do have 2 of his daughters -- 1/2 RIR, 1/2 Buff Orp. They're pretty girls, and when I look at them they always remind me of their daddy and how he was the absolute best roo ever. We haven't had any predator losses since the fence was installed; now I just have to get it covered this spring. (it's going to be a bear to cover; it's approx. 350' or so, with a couple of large trees in the run. I'll just try to net/cover around the trees. This may also keep the smart-aleck guinea from flying out of the pen. He's bright enough to fly over the fence, but not bright enough to figure out how to get back IN.
I miss my Sarge. Moose (originally named Mean Orp Rooster, so named when he was going through his hormonal adolescence!) tries to be alpha roo now, and does a fair job, but he just doesn't have it all down pat like my Sarge. Gotta love the good roos!
