Thanks! I definitely agree with Orpington! This one has tried twice, this was the first time she stuck and is really serious. Her sister tried it too this time but only for a day or so, she was not serious. Penny however has been setting for 2 or 3 weeks, no matter how many times I take her off the nest or take her eggs. She will sit on the shavings.

I am breaking her now thougg

Penny is such a great, calm chicken. OMG.

She went right on her little roost tonight when the other girls went on theirs, no drama.

I did take her out of the pen though and brought her in the garage and she immediately settled in. She made a little noise when I was carrying her, im the crate, to the garage but that's to be expected. She screamed a few times once inside lol and at first was disturbed when I was setting her up

BUT

I sat out there with her for a bit and she went on the roost and calmed right down so then after that, even when I moved her again when I didn't like the first set up, she just stayed on the roost and didn't care. And I moved her twice. No issues. "It's okay, mom, just what you gotta do". No squawking, nothing. She did try to peck me once when I opened the crate to pet her and say good night though but then she let me pet the other side lol no complaining when I turned the light off and walked in the house, leaving her alone. No freaking when the cat tried to sneak in the garage and ran by (I heard her and nabbed her lol). Nada.

Tbh, I think she kind of likes it in there. It is warmer than outside and it's quiet lol

And they were brooded in there from about 3 weeks old to 7 weeks and from 5 to 7 weeks, I carried them in and out every day and night until we got the pen set up, so maybe she remembers it?

It's funny how calm she is though.

I do worry that the predator might come back for the other girls tonight though.... especially since it won't know I put Penny inside until it comes and checks.

But thankfully Gator is here tonight.

Here are some pictures of Penny all settled in.

Smart little girl already knows the routine.

See, they acclimate pretty quick...after some 'change drama'.

Yup! You were both right, after all! :D

I am just amazed at how she not only went straight to bed when they did but how she also barely made a peep when I was moving her all over in the garage and when she did, all it took was a little "shh, it's okay" and she was quiet again. Any of my other girls probably would have been panicking and injured themselves flapping lol

She is such a sweet, gentle, quiet girl. :love

A calm demeanor and soothing voice can go a long way when working with animals.

Apparently so!

Should I take the roost out during the day? Probably too late for today but I think she's been sitting on it all day.

Also I only checked on her early this morning and then just now because I've been busy today and she just perked up and is softly calling to me and stood up. I think the poor girl is lonely. :(

So tomorrow I'm going to spend more time with her I think.

She is also hunkered down on the roost. Is it possible she thinks she can brood there? Or it's just the most comfortable place to sit? Poor girl just tried to get the water and can't reach from the roost. Lazy thing lol

I spoil her and moved it for her lol not much, she could just barely not reach it so i just bumped it out a bit.

But she really should get up?????
