Oh, they sound like the Brown-Edge cookies Nabisco used to make but discontinued. They were good. Springerles are German, thick and square, usually have a little picture of. . . different things stamped into the top. A bird is one pic that comes to mind. It`s a pale, almost white cookie, almost as high as it is wide. The bakeries here only make them at Christmas time. They`re pretty expensive even as bakery cookies go, I think. But then the ingredients to do it yourself were giving me sticker shock the year I thought I`d do them, so I guess the bakery has to make its money. I usually get some for myself because, hey, the rest of the family just doesn`t appreciate them the way I do. That`s my story and I`m sticking to it! Haven`t actually found any yet this year.
