Well, my mom surprised me today. She ordered 15 chicks from a hatchery, and they'll be here next week. She bought the "leftovers" that hatched late and were stuck to the bottom of the bin. Lol, I can't wait to see what we get.
Bottom of the bin is just a funny way of saying they're the chicks who didn't hatch during peak ordering time. To prevent them from having to keep chicks and resell them as pullets and cockerels, hatcheries will put together "grab bags" of assorted late-hatching chicks. They cost about half the price of the chicks that hatched in time. You can think of it as the halloween candy that goes on sale after halloween is over.
thats pretty cool. i have never ordered chicks before. it sounds like fun but i am sure it will be a long time if i ever need to. i can hear a chick hatching out in the kitchen right now. i dont know why such a big time frame. big and little hatched together and there is still big and little in there. 6 eggs left in there i think.
