Possible Guinea Eggs in "Quail" Batch?

i just dont get it cheyen, explain to me. i am not being , whats the right word, smartbutt ? i just cant understand why people want such strange pets? what do you get out of it? is it like watching fish swim ? rats, why? they are nasty things, they killed people many yrs. ago. they dont look at you as a friend or even a protector. not trying to step on anyones toes here, if you have a rat and and you love it , ok. its yours not mine. i just dont get it.

No, I understand granny. I can't speak for other people, but I know my interest in scaly things comes from a time when my dad used to own a few different types of reptiles. I don't know what got him into that sort of thing, but that's what got me started. I was never afraid of "weird" animals. I was in love with things like Animal Planet, Nat. Geo. magazine, and catching cool bugs like caterpillars and beetles, so there was always an interest in different animals.

My grandpa grew up in Florida, and used to sell baby alligators to tourists for a buck, so he also encouraged curiosity in nature and things like that. I used to go down to see him every summer, and we'd have fun catching little green lizards and fishing and stuff. I guess an interest in the sort of weird animals like lizards and rats stems from curiosity as a child and having supportive parents who don't stifle your interests.

As for all the other stuff... I understand that fear of certain animals does come from instincts that just haven't disappeared yet, but in this day and age is incredibly safe to own exotic animals when you know what you're doing. I've had turtles, a snake, and even some other lizards in the past, and the basic rules are all the same: don't let them get hungry, hold them often and wash your hands before and after. It's really simple and safe, and also the same kind of rules you follow with a normal pet.

Also, the type of animal you get will determine how interactive they are. Something small like the lizard I have could be compared to a goldfish (I guess, lol) in that it doesn't do much other than eat. Heck, she doesn't even walk around during the day! So, yeah, you could say they're only good for decoration, but it feels like I'm getting something more from it. I know she'll never see me as a friend or protector, probably more like some weird moving tree branch that rains food, lol.

Honestly, I think the same could apply to chickens. You can tame them to the point that they'll let you pick them up, but will they ever truly see you as a friend? They're not like cats and dogs, they don't just walk up to you for cuddling. But they're fun to watch and interact with! You wouldn't think of lizards as having anymore personality as chicken would, but they do all have their own likes and dislikes and how often they tolerate you touching them, etc. I'm constantly learning new things about my little lizard just like I am my chickens. It's fun to watch them grow and develop, and see them start to warm up to you.

Sorry for the huge wall of text! I've been asked this before in person, but there's just never time like there is online to say everything you want to say. I don't think you're stepping on any toes, granny. I understand exotic animals aren't for everyone, lol.

that was a wonderful explanation cheyen ! and it does help me to understand. thank you.

it is good that you can open my eyes. no matter how many words it takes . LOL

omg ! you just brought back a memory of my step-father buying us an alligator in Fl. for a dollar. now wouldnt that be something? i dont remember where but it was in the 70s and i just want to guess around bush gardens.

I'm not sure if it's the same busch gardens as it is now. I know it's around tampa, florida. My grandpa grew up in the area, and lots of kids would go down to the 'glades and steal baby alligators to sell for pocket cash, lol. He would've been a kid, so probably in the 50's-60's.

there is only one bush gardens. its where the beer is from. yes, same side as tampa. thats pretty cool. what if i had meet your grandpa when i was a kid? wouldnt that be funny?

well, i dont have school tomorrow, as a matter of fact i dont have anything to do tomorrow but its been one of those days and i am heading to bed anyway. you know cheyen, if you write your school reports with as much passion as you did about the ex. pets i would give you straight A. you really have a knack for it. good night, sleep tight and dont let the super worms bite. hehehe

Is anyone home? lol. I know I didn't post all weekend, but pictures are coming! I was really busy over the weekend. I was with my great-grandma, and she had me doing a bunch of chores for her, lol.

We sold a lot of our birds over the weekend, too. Times are changing, and my sister and I will be leaving the nest sooner than my mom thinks. She decided to preemptively sell off what she can't handle alone. The coop has never looked so empty and clean! We've only got 10 chickens now. 9 hens and 1 rooster. I think she just wants to make room for turkeys, lol.
