post any and all waterfowl pictures here!!! ponds, pools, aviarys, coops, runs, etc.

Hi Poultry09 - That is exciting you are getting a dewlap toulouse from Holderreads!
yesss.gif
I have only seen the regular toulouse here at the fair, and they are usually pretty small and not high quality. You'll have to show us some pics when you get him. Also should be neat to visit their farm. I know they don't do farm tours of the actual duck areas, but I bet you can still kinda see what kinda setup they got goin on. Must be huge. I got from them a breeding pair of blue runners - they shipped them to me as adults in the fall/early winter. Supposedly when you cross them you get half blue, quarter silver or silver splash and quarter black offspring. I just hatched a few so I got just blue and silver splash. The splashed ones were actually almost white and turned out to be very beautiful. I also crossed my male with a 'production quality' fawn and white from Metzer's farm just for fun and got some strange colors from that. The offspring layed large white eggs instead of the cool green/blue ones of the Holderread ones. The drake that came out of it though was real pretty (see below in bottom image).

Cheers

Thoes guys look great! Ireally like that cross runner drake, he is cool looking!. Indian runners are my favorite breed of duck, they are so active and comical to watch.

Here is another update on Lilly and Daisy. Except I think Daisy may be a daffy, he is getting a raspy little quack but Lilly will blow you over when her quack comes in. LOL When theyre peeping the quacks just kinda come in the background. OH can anyone take a guess not that they are older on their Breed and ages?? The bottom of their bellys no longer have down its thick soft feather like things.

lilly and daisy(daffy) are looking great! I am not to sure what breed they are? your guess is as good as mine.

I have been stalking this site for days. Getting ideas for our aviary. Wow you all have some amazing enclosures. We just recently finished ours. It was about a 5 day process. I am super thrilled with the great job my husband did for our babies. He put a lot of work into and made it look really really great! It has a tarp over the top with an old ball shoved between the board and tarp so any rain or snow will run right off. There is a doggie door already on the shed from when he used to have a duck that we are going to move their house inside in the winter. We will be working on a different house for everyone later on. This will give them plenty of shade through out the summer and we can worry about a better winter shelter this fall. We will be putting a pool in there after it gets warmer and they get a few more feathers.

I really like that design of coop/covered run!. If you dont mind me asking how much did it cost to build it? and how big is it? great job building it

also please post a couple pictures of the little duckies.

I love all the pics!!! Hubby bought some Cornish Rock chicks from TS today and mentioned they also had Pekin ducklings. He's never really wanted ducks but I think the fact that we have one from when we bought a few other chickens and she was included, that may have softened him up to the idea, LOL. Especially after seeing the ducklings today. We have plenty of land to do something with, although making a small pond may be a small challenge but I'm hoping we'll be able to get a few ducklings.

SO, for those of you that have Pekins, do they get along ok without a pond or would it be best to have one? And if so how big should it be? I'd love to see more pics of ponds that have been built/dug/made, however one would say it, lol.

Poultry09- The enclosure is 8 ft x 10 ft. I don't know how much it cost to build it honestly. It is all stuff from other things we have had built. We used to have a huge fenced in yard for our dogs until the guy who keeps horses next to us tore down and replaced his fence leaving about a 1 foot gap between our fence. I am still a little peeved about that. It was a nice yard for our dogs. Anyway my aunt gave us two large rolls of the fencing and we bought a hog panel and cut it in half and made the gate for the aviary. I only call it an aviary because we have a turkey too. We had 2 turkey's but I ran in for a second to switch over some laundry, they were outside like 2 min., and our dog got a hold of the turkey. My daughter was pretty sad but grandma offered to get her 2 more ducks so that cheered her up. She is only 3 and still has 1 turkey so she wasn't too bad. We are hoping to get 2 Rouen's but it doesn't look like Orscheln has them and I am afraid to get a mallard and then have them fly away. We will probably end up getting 2 Khaki Campbell's which we like also. My husband is a duck hunter so he wanted some that look like the mallards. Here are some pictures of the ducklings. I think Stinky ( Addison giggled when she named him) and Crickett are Pekin and Captain Jack is a Runner. Let me know if you all think they are something else. They were straight run at Orscheln so they didn't even know what they were.

Stinky-Captain Jack-Crickett

Here is Goober. He's not a duck

I thought Goober was a fitting name for a turkey since he is likely going to look like a goober when he is full grown.

Crickett & Stinky snuggled up. They were about a week old there.

Here is everyone on their first time outside. Capt. Jack is in front, he is the one I think is a Runner. Stinky in the middle, and Crickett in the back.

Do you all think i am right that Jack is a Runner and Crickett & Stinky are Pekins? Any guesses on what color Jack will end up being. He looks like he is getting white feathers but has some dark on his head and gets a little darker when he is swimming.

I think they are around 6 weeks old. No idea on breed, but they do look a lot like my 2 girls who are khaki/cayuga/buff.

They were just standing up because I was freaking them out with the camera, lol. They are about 2 and a half months old now, were a few days old in the first pic and about 6 weeks in the second.
