Post here if you DON'T wash clean-looking eggs

I've had poopy eggs but they are rare...if they are laid in the deep litter or some such. If so, they get tossed to the dogs or the chooks.

Deep litter helps keep gals feet cleaner before they climb into nest boxes, clean nesting material is also key~any soiled material is turned or tossed with each egg collection, and my gals free range, so their feet are cleaner than chickens confined to a bare, dirty run.

Also, feeding consistency is also a way to prevent poopy eggs....any change in the diet can result in sloppy poops and poopy vent feathers. Treats and such are just such a change....my chickens get enough treats from their foraging, they do not need "treats" that can upset their digestion and cause loose bowels.

Straw in the coop and nest boxes, cleaned frequently (I check the boxes when I open the pop door in the morning and refresh any with droppings in them -- nobody roosts in the boxes so they are usually clean), litter in the run (using leaves currently), plus ranging so poop is relatively solid from their intake of greens.

I only wipe visible dirt off eggs, otherwise they go right into the cartons for storage. I do recommend that any eggs be washed before use or at least cracked into a separate bowl. (To be honest, I wouldn't wash even the dirt the dirty ones if it weren't for the fact DW has a thing about putting chicken poop in the refrig.)

I only wash eggs if they're really nasty looking, which seems to happen the most during rainy weather when the chickens get nasty feet from walking out in a muddy run. I will check to make sure that all the eggs look clean before placing them in a carton if they're eggs that I'm packing to go to someone else. When I do wash them, I don't use any type of soap, just rinse them and wipe off the grimy spots with a damp paper towel.

I have only washed 1 or 2 that were accidentally laid out in the run and have ALOT of poo on them. I just stick those in the fridge but the ones from my nest boxes are always clean and I never wah. I store them on my counter in my lovely Egg Skelter next to my antique scale.
