Post Phoenix Pics Please

That makes sense, I was looking at pics of Cy Hyde's and they looked like they had super duper long tails, so I was curious as to what the general length is.

Is there a big difference in size between bantam phoenix and standard phoenix. Does anybody have pics to show the difference.

Yes there should be a significant size difference. Bantams on a whole are supposed to be approx. 1/3 the size of their large fowl counter part. Most Bantam Phoenix here in the US are caught somewhere in between. There are a few breeders that are intensively working on the small size. They do take a lot of maintenance to keep them small and keep the tails. I believe this is why a lot tend to run a little big because you do loose some of the tail when you really get them down to size. Depends on what you want out of your birds. A good phoenix show bantam rooster should weigh 30 oz. but really is only required to have a 2ft. tail with a good full saddle. Most of the ones you see with 4 or 5 foot tails will probably weigh closer to 2 pounds. Just depends on what each breeder is breeding for. This is my experience with the bantams. Hope it helps!!

I was measuring Raphael's tail yesterday. He is up to 80 inches on the longest feathers. He is only two and they are from his first year. Gave him a warm bath and a blow dry today. He just loved it.. I also will include a picture of his breast feathers. If your birds have damaged tails, I have noticed that the roosters with the long pointed breast feathers (4 or so inches long) tend to be nonmolters. This particular rooster also has elongated feathers on the top of his wings. Causing his wing band to be imperfect and somewhat ruffled.. You will notice some of his breast feathers and especially his leg feathers and side feathers under the wing have white edges. He is not a birchen, but a pure silver duckwing. No ginger involved or mahogany gene. They are just mutated.

Do his spurs point outward. He is very pretty. Wish I could get me one.

His left spur grows crooked, but his other one is normal. I keep them trimmed as they will grow very long.

agree 100%. and yes there's a good deal of difference on correct to size ones, they are a lot of mid sized birds out there too though .

I mainly keep bantams, yes they average in the 30 once to 36 once range, and oh 14 inches tall or so on average. My large fowl are all imports but range from 4-7 pounds

all pics I have posted threw this thread are bantam sized, or there's 150+ of them on my website... been meaning to take some recent ones on re up the pics, but there's a good many on here threw the pages... this new formate on BYC takes me like an hour to add new ones or I'd gladly pop some on for you.
