Post Phoenix Pics Please

could you take a pic of them? I think if you can see potential you could work with them, however, what you see is sometimes what you get.. So you also prepare yourself for accepting them as what they are.. At $3 each I would say that is a bargain.. And they can always be bred to standard colors if they have good type to get the colors fixed..

They aren't non molters so I am not sure if I want to buy them. I really want non molters right now.
They are just regular bantam phoenixes, very small.
However, I do want to breed them into standard colors! Some have pretty nice thick feathers too!
I wasn't thinking at the time and I didn't snap any pictures with my phone. UGHHH!

I WANT TO DRIVE BACK AND GO GET THEM SO BAD RIGHT NOWWWW
What I see, is definitely what I get. However, if I take time with them and selectively breed them... I am sure I can get some nice ones.
I will probably go back soon to get them. I CAN'T LIVE MY LIFE KNOWING I MADE SUCH A GOOD BARGAIN.

The guy wanted to get rid of them soooooo badly.

OH Amanda,
They were raised poorly so their saddles and hackles are all pecked off... Well a lot of it
And some of their combs have already been frost bitten off. I might buy the and dubb them.

I might even buy them to sell them to make a profit.

Dvang, that's what I thought too, just do not understand how we have goldens out of a silver roo and hen, we're new to the breed maybe just something in their genetic background has surfaced, out of the same batch we also have 3 silver cockrels (sold 2) and one silver pullet. was hoping one of the other breeders could tell me about the genetics thing.
gold, silver and bb red are frequently bred together. You pretty much answered your own question, it's just in their back ground. IF you are possitive of the parents, then they just have gold in them is all and the gene gods lined up and out poped golds from silvers. Shouldnt really happen too often but it does.
I get blue reds from my trio of blue golds pretty regular, even though they are bred gold to gold.
silver to bb is the normal route to get golds, but if it's in the parents it just has a chance of coming out at times.

The comment on rec whites, that gene just masks the base true color of the bird, so if you have say silver duckwing that came from a breeding to recessive whites, yes from time to time your silver to silver matings will make whites becuase they are split to that gene, meaning they carry 1 copy of rec white ( takes two copies for it to be visible), but it can be over bb or birchen or anything really. Most commonly though rec white in phoenix is over silver duckwing or silver birchen, mostly the duckwing though as they are a million times more common.

Did you ask him where he acquired them?

Also, one hen has silkie feathers... but she was a phoenix
Quite unique haahahaha...
at $3 each, that's a steal as long as they are decent birds to work with ( no need in getting something just to feed if it wont fit your goals), and if they are blue gingers or something non standard, that generally is worth a lot more money. My eggs cost that or more...haha...

On the silkied hen, she may be phoenix type, but if she has silkied feathers, she's definitely not a phoenix by definition, just a phoenix hybred. Would make for an interesting looking bird though. If they are 3 foot and in bad pens, they should be decent lines, like Amanda said, a pic would be nice, but sounds worth $3 for sure. Like you said you can always cull and sell off the ones you dont like ones they get cleaned up and new feathers on where you can tell a little more about them.

also if it's a ginger based bird, you'll have no problem making duckwings out of them, just breed them to duckwings...

He acquired them from another Amish guy down the road haha
Surprisingly, the Amish people have started raising a lot of phoenixes.
However, they stash the nicer ones and sell off the culls. I've asked to see the parents, but they refuse to show me... STINGY! hahaha
