Post Phoenix Pics Please

Hey, lets combine all projects!!! How about a NM long saddled rumpless bird with NM crest feathers and maybe throw in naked neck just for good measure!!!

I have however considered a sultan/phoenix.. Like a nonmolting long saddled, tailed, and crested bird with a beard and feather legs... Just kind of sounds like a giant feather puff.. Maybe call them snowballs.. Rec. White of course.. LOL

Haha, I just like to throw them ugly naked necks into the mix just for kicks and grins. I do raise a mutated and different form of Naked necks, but I certainly am not serious about adding that to any NM birds. As a sort of curiosity, I wonder if the NN gene and its reduction of body feathers throughout the entire body would interfere with the expression of NM anyway. Interesting thought, but not interesting enough to test it on my own. But I am seriously going to attempt the rumpless NM saddle birds.

I say do it.. Great idea and I can't wait to see the f1's.. They will most likely have tails first year.. But will be interesting to see..

ya she made me interestd how that worked, i saw her pic an you said it was a hen so I was like "COOL!"

I've heard of hen feathered cocks but the hen feathered like a cock was more interesting, Lol.
It really is interesting.
I just figured out about such a thing this year too.

How do you get a hen cock feathered? And does anyone have hen feathered roosters? Just'a wonderin' .
it's just another gentics thing, picking and selecting birds that exhibit the best type for it to start with.
of course great males help. look for spurs or heavy spur bumps on the hens, use them to get a start, eventually you will get a few. Thing is, usually after the first adult molt, it goes away, it's mainly a pullet feathering. In the end, you are left with a longer than normal tailed hen, usually with spurs.
I have heard from several breeders it may be caused by heavy testoserone levels in them. Due to this, I have had some over the years that either dont lay, lay very few, or lay those tiny little dime sized eggs. Most of them I have though lay just fine, and tend to make excellent males.

Hen feathered cocks, like in sebrights? That would have to come in from an outcross to a breed that had that set of genes, then back breed the chicks, some should come out then. Then to fix type you'd have to repeat the process to the breed of choice using the new 50% pure project birds. So on and so on. Never messed with hen feathering, kinda defeats the purpose in long tails, so I'm not sure how it would breed out, recessive or dominate. I feel confident it would be recessive, though not sure.
If it is a dominate trait, it would be a little easier though.
