Okay I looked really close at your hen's pattern: I think she is a White Laced after hitting various project threads on BYC: Here are 2 hens from white laced red & buff projects different crosses and breeds at early stages in the projects: So I am thinking maybe an f1 or f2 white laced red or maybe buff phoenix hen is what you have. Allot of folks seem to use Cornish or other Game birds to introduce this pattern. What does everyone else think?

So cool! The lady I got them from had orps. They were in separate pens, but that doesn't mean they always were. Strong possibility on this one.

@Tabatha my phoenix lay white eggs and even light brown but mainly tan eggs.

@Lauravonsmurf , that's interesting in focusing harder on your females. We've breed for show and show but we focus on our males first, I want prepotent males in as many breeding pens as I can have them. The males in your breeding pens will contribute more genetically than your females. Of course, you want to find suitable females also but with the males having the 2 long sex chromosomes - that's two places for genes to be correct in order to guarantee them breeding on sons the same or better than them and still giving quality females.

There's always different ways of breeding, of course. It's worked well for us so far.

I LOVE the breed to answer the original question. Ours are not flighty but will seek out our attention. I have a bench out near my runs and when they see me and they're out, they'll all come flocking to the bench to fly up and sit in our laps and try to get attention. They're very sweet and friendly. Even my rooster avoids conflicts whenever he can. He runs from my little Ohiki roo just to keep the peace. Here's a few of our BBR, mine are standard. The roo is only about 9 months and has a lot of filling out to still do. They lay just about everyday- I'd say 6 eggs a week at least per hen. The offspring are quite hardy as well and hatch very easily.

What would u get if u bred a silver phoenix roo to a gold hen?

whatever hatched will be a dirty silver. So they look like silvers but some yellow feathering.(specially in saddle)

Yup that's it.. Cross him back to a golden.

So him to a golden would make what? Just gold or?

It will get you alot closer to a golden bird. Easier than trying to go back to silver(in my opinion) yellow will be noticed on silver alot more so will take longer to go back to full silver.
