Aubrey,

Yes, I have seen those around from breeders in the East Coast but they are not a recognized color for the standard since there is no such thing is a "pure-bred" BLACK Phoenix : )

well to be honest, as for the "standard" silver and gold are the only 2 anyway right? Yet there are 20 or so colors of them in the states.

Aubrey & Others,

The FOUR STANDARD colors are: Silver Duckwing, Golden Duckwing, White and Red Duckwing (BBRed). Any color besides those four are just derivatives of the Phoenix's Standard and the tail/saddle length is usually much shorter. The "BLACK PHOENIX" is usually derived from crossing the BBRed Phoenix w/ the Sumatra or other Black Old English Banties and then later crossed backed in after the dominant color of black is expressed...

In regards to my post on page 13, some one asked "what they are" They are Phoenix. I have never used game, nor mixed with the sumatra or yokohama to work my lines. The brown reds are coming from a 6 year old line that originally was sent to me from Thompsons exotic poultry. IT is my opinion and not known to be fact that the breeder their may have or the breeder that he got stock from had at one time had to have added in something.
In keeping my color lines true( the SDW,GDW,And whites) we only see odd colors crop up when traced back to the Thompson lines.

Thanks for the welcome! BTW I am curently incubating eggs that I got from Boggy Bottom Bantams! They are Phoenix Bantams. I also have a question though. I have several different breeds, one of these is Silver Spangled Hamburgs. Anyways, I have 3 Hamburg hens who were getting picked on pretty bad in my Hamburg pen, so I put them in with my Phoenix roos. ( I don't have any empty pens....yet). Well, of course I have recently noticed that they have been breeding, and the hens have been laying. Would it be wrong of me to incubate a few eggs "just to see what I get"......just wondering.

Hi, just wanted to post a better pic of my Gold duckwing phoenix roo, this pic was taken by ( MY PET CHICKEN) hwen we went to the North eastern congress poultry show this past Jan.

7 month old Golden Phoenix Cockerel. He is a pet, flighty, but very friendly. Tolerates handling very well. I am hoping that his tail will get a bit fuller, but since he is not SQ not sure if it will. He has an adequate pen, but the hamburg hen that he is being housed with at the moment stands on his tail a lot! I have found a few tail feathers loose in the pen.

Here's a pic of Silver my Phoenix roo my brother gave me for a Christmas gift. I posted him then but this is a newer photo of him. He's a happy camper with his 7 girl-friends, he's such a good rooster, also.
