Post Phoenix Pics Please

Does any one have banta phoenix eggs of assorted colors and will take money order?
have 'em on ebay every week, or you can contact me any time for a private order of some, got quite a few different colors.

also on your next question.
onadagori.net has some great reading on there.

pretty much though for tails the most important thing is to start with good lines. Doenst matter what all you do if it's a poor feathering line to start with.

even with the best of the best, you still get good feather growers and weak ones. It takes at least til the first adult molt to know what you have, some lines take 2 years to show what they'll be made of. So if you buy from a well known breeder, give them time before culling any.

For the best tails, we went over this a good bit a few pages back, you might want to scan threw if you have the time. But if you want " perfect tails" you pretty much need to keep the males by themselves. Pen mates stepping on them do more damage than anything. High roost help, of course they cant be in the rain and mud. Dry, fully covered pens are a must, not for keeping them, but for keeping great feathers. Thick bedding helps a lot too. Keep it fresh and keep the poop out as much as possible. Elevate the drinking water so they dont spend all day dragging their tails threw it too. Diet wise, a normal phoenix needs nothing special, but higher protein during their blood feather months does help produce better feather growth to a degree. I like fish food. Just give them a little each day along with their normal chicken feed, dont over do it. To a good degree though a standard phoenix has a lenght it's going to get to and that's it. You can help it to a small degree, but proper care after is the more important part that you have the most control over.
The lines with non molting blood are the ones that diet plays a bigger role in.

Hope that helped a little bit

I don't think I bought any of the Ismer's this time from Aubrey, just the Scheberts. Can you or Aubrey explain what crow-wing means? I don't mind it taking longer if they stay this sweet

By the Ismers being more gamey like, do you personality wise? I have had a couple of Cubalaya's (or so I was told), but I think they are a gold duckwing game birds. They can be kind of mean to other birds. Maybe that's just the ones I got, but I keep hoping someone I know would like to take the last 2 roos I have.
you have duck wing and crow wing. Crow wing is another name for birchen. comes in the same colors as duckwing, just doesnt have the wing triangle like the duckwings do. Its a solid black wing, thus the name "crow" wing. Males are pretty much exactly the same as duckwings, minus the wing patch, and they some times have a laced up breast.
Hens are totally different. Pretty much solid black with the color in hackles and breast lacing.
Brown red is a common crow wing color in many breeds, and is the birchen counterpart of a bb red duckwing
Birchen ( or silver birchen) would be your silver duckwing counter part

Then there's a gold birchen too

Once again I have a question about our little roo we hatched he has matured a little now, and I do not know what color to call him or how we got ythis color out of 2 silvers, and one more thing the two pullets we hatched at the same time are showing red hackles. anyway here he is any help would be greatly appreciated

This is the one I posted awhile back that I thought may have been a pullet

He looks golden to me :)

@ Boggy Bottom Bantams - I have been interested in long-tail breeds for a few months now, and have always loved your birds. Imagine my joy when I realized my recent Ebay egg purchase was from you! I'm so excited to get the eggs, and to see what pretty babies hatch!

Dvang, that's what I thought too, just do not understand how we have goldens out of a silver roo and hen, we're new to the breed maybe just something in their genetic background has surfaced, out of the same batch we also have 3 silver cockrels (sold 2) and one silver pullet. was hoping one of the other breeders could tell me about the genetics thing.

I am new to breeding phoenixes as well. However I do believe it has to do with genetics back in the line.
For example, Silvers can be produced by BBreds as well.

This year my BBred hen produced 2 Silvers and 2 Goldens out of the 15 chicks.
My rooster, as you can see in my display, is a BBred Phoenix. His father was a Golden.
My line of phoenix genetics is very diverse even though I bred the BBred Phoenix Roo to BBred Hens.

I believe Amanda once told me, some white phoenixes are produced by silvers as well. This is a recessive gene.

I went to the Amish people this morning. The guy raised bantam phoenixes.
He had a flock of 10 roosters. He said if I took all he would go $3 each....
He also has hens with sickle feathers. I wanted to get them so bad, however I was not equipped!
Their feathers are all messed up because they are confined in a small space. However, the longest tail reached about 3 feet!!!
Also, the color on them is kinda ugly. They have blue tail feathers with ginger, silver bodies bodies. I don't know how to explain it. I am not fond of the colors.
I am going back in 2 weeks....

What is your thought on this? Should I get them or not?
It would take a lot of work to breed them to how I want, however they have potential...
