post your chicken coop pictures here!

Hello everyone. New here. New to raising chickens as well! My wife and I picked up 6 RIR chicks for our boys as a Easter present. After going just about crazy over what to do for a coop I said screw it and bought a really nice Amish made coop that gets delivered Friday! Can't wait and the kids are even more excited! This is a new adventure for us but has been fun for all so far!

Seeing everyone's home built coops makes me jealous as I should of built one but I honestly don't have the time right now. Working 80 hours a week on a different shift each week kinda kills my energy to spend countless hours building outside. Figured I was better off buying something well built to keep the girls safe than a quick thrown together pile I did on 2 hours of sleep lol.
Here's a couple pics I took quick before leaving the place we bought it from. I'll be clearing a spot for it tomorrow and will build a run for it this weekend hopefully!

thats a neat looking coop, enjoy the ride

We bought a coop on Craigslist, 4 nesting boxes, and handles to move around the yard!
Just a note to 2nd owners. Use a strong cleaning solution like Oxine, etc to thoroughly clean 2nd hand coops. Even bleach isn't strong enough. You just never know how clean-conscious the previous owners are/were re poultry diseases, lice, mites, etc. Even if it's a new coop it is still a good idea to use a good solution if it came from premises that had poultry on their property.

I love the roofline over the nestboxes on your coop!

Put a paver stone walkway around the pen area base to deter digging foxes, stray dogs, coyotes, lynx, etc. The wooded area in your photo houses a variety of predators you aren't aware of until you get chickens. These digger predators are fast diggers and in a few minutes a penned flock can be lost.

Hey guys... I've done the math and if I'm right my eggs will hatch in a day or two... Can I go get a few babies and slip them under momma if these don't hatch? Will momma and chick take to each other if I get them as soon as the come in at the store? My kids are excited about babies and if these don't hatch they will cry.

here is my mommy with 2 of her own plus 6 odd from other mommies, we put them in at night just put under a wing, she was a good mom too, one day she was walking back and forth in front of the door so we opened it she went out and turned said something to peep and off she went, at about 4 we went out and she was at the door so we opened it, and in she went, she did this for three days, then one day we opened the door she turned and talked to her babies for about 5 mins then went out and never went back in, it was so neat the way she said good bye to them. a very good mom to all them.

use a fishing net.

An old pool net can also work. See if anyone has an old one you can ask for.

Hey Adk!

That's a really sweet coop and should be just right for 6 full grown RIRs (they don't STAY small!) Sometimes it's just a smarter thing to do to spend the bucks as they can be replaced and the time can't. I didn't really have the time either, but built anyways and it's been a year and there's still more to do... I'm sure you and the kids will have a blast! Your wife might have fun too (as long as you don't leave all the cleaning chores to her

).

this is what i want my hubbie to do for me use as a covered run, we have a nice coop but would love to have this, hubbie told me he was burned out so i guess i have to wait for a wind to blow, maybe i will talk to my daughter to help build it,

I'm not surprised DH is burned out - he did a magnificent job! If you get DD to help you with a hooped run then it might go easier to get a pre-made wood screen door instead of trying to build one yourselves when the time comes. Reinforce the flimsy screen with 1/2" wire on the door. It's amazing what you have accomplished since you started posting on this thread!

Thanks all! I agree it's easier to replace the money than the time. Id much rather take my boys fishing or just sit on the back porch and play with toy cars with them. They will always remember dad playing with them vs dad being outside by muttering and cussing to himself trying to build a coop lol! So far the wife and I came to the agreement to split the cleaning chores as evenly as possible. Working rotating shifts it's hard for me to do anything on a regular basis but she stays home with the boys full time so she will keep most chores on schedule and I'll just be doing anything I can when I'm home.

Can't wait to get the chicks moved outside. Trying to keep my 2 year old from messing with them is difficult at times. He is in love with them. First thing he says when he wakes up in the morning is "where's the chickies!?" Lol. He will sit there and watch them run about in their Rubbermaid container for as long as I let him. Hopefully it's a good sign he will be very helpful with taking care of them for years to come!
