post your chicken coop pictures here!

Hi! Mines not fancy but the chicks seem happy in it. We used old posts and tin that we saved from a shed that went down years ago.
Nice recycling and stylish. You'll probably get a lot of comments on here about the chicken poultry wire not being strong enough against predators coming from your wooded area. We almost lost our first flock to stray mutts that broke into our yard and mangled the poultry wire and would've killed the birds if a good neighbor hadn't chased off the mutts. Everyone is going to suggest 1/2" hardwire. GL!

Thank you! I figured it wouldn't be strong enough...I should have gotten the sturdy stuff but was being tight

hopefully I don't have to learn the hard way. We do have coyotes in the area and raccoons but the dog usually barks if it's at night and they are on the prowl. I'll come up with something...

I just finished my coop over the past weekend. It is made from old metal shed that I took off part of one side and front to let it have circulation because of heat in the area. It doesn't get too cold here so I'm not really concerned about cold. I did a quick how to video if you are thinking of a similar option for your chickens. It came out pretty nice considering I don't have a lot of skills for building.

I read where some ppl have used 1/2" wire to run along the bottom part of the run right over the poultry wire. That would help from canine animals but it still doesn't address clever climbing predators - especially Raccoons. A family dog is nice but they can sometimes sleep right through a sneaky predator's lurking. If the dog is awake great, but I've had Rotties sleep right through someone climbing over our backyard fence years ago. Just never can count 100% on the family dog plus you don't want your pet injured protecting the yard.

Don't want to see you where I was 4 yrs ago when stray mutts broke into our yard to attack our chicken poultry wire coop. GL!

Re: the chick thing. You can try, but be ready for rejection. Mine rejected the introduced babies.

Re:Oodalolly coop. Dh and I just went through all the receipts I kept for this giant coop AND run. The grand total.....$2750.00 and 20-35 hours a week by be for 3 months! Which includes time to go to hardware store once a week.

To just get a basic shed build for us here, which we would have to modify to make the coop what we wanted is 2390 and that does not include a run!

I did not add personal picks and décor I bought for the coop, like signs, and jars, feeders, or sand, mulch, pdz etc.

Add all that, plus the cost of my fancy PANTS chickENS; and I could Probably ADD another $800.
I'm thrilled with the cost

Next project is the garden fence and gate. It's all tilled, but has no fence.

i can help you out with dimensions and materials if you need any help with the hoop coops...you can make them in any length...i have four hoop coops..and expanding several more...they are very solid...and you can add greenhouse fiberglass and then its dual purpose...one year chickens the next year garden...

Last night my husband but a screen door on the coop so that way when the girls are laying they will have sunshine and be able to look outside, and also to keep the stink down. At night I just shut the big door in front of it and all is good!

We have a screen door too! I have an insert that keeps the weather out on rough days, but come summer its out even for nights. Works wonders on the ventilation!

Yeah, gotta have a screen door. I have the entrance door to my coop hooked open from mid Mar, to Nov. Let that fresh air in.
